Position Summary 

The Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC) is looking for an experienced Fund Development Director to provide leadership, strategic direction, management, coordination and implementation to expand AROC’s grassroots fundraising efforts. This includes developing and implementing a fundraising plan for cultivating, securing and maintaining contributions from individuals (through major donor cultivation and grassroots fundraising efforts) and foundations as well as building and sustaining long-term donor strategies and relationships. The Fund Development Director will work closely with the Director’s team.


Background: AROC is a non-profit grassroots organization working to empower and organize our community towards justice and self-determination for all. AROC members build community power in the Bay Area by participating in leadership development, political education, and campaigns. For the last decade, a majority of our funds have been from City and County Sources. We aim to shift the balance of our resources to be primarily grassroots community supported. AROC is fiscally sponsored by the Tides Center.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual fundraising goals for major donors, grassroots fundraising, and foundation grants in collaboration with the Directors Team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to ensure that the organization meets its annual financial goals and develops a strong financial base for the future.
  • Develop and provide leadership to implement an individual donor program, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and engagement of individual donors and stewardship of major donors.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities and develop relationships with individuals, foundations, and other relevant institutional representatives.
  • Support Executive Director, other lead staff and volunteers to fulfill their fund development roles and responsibilities.
  • In coordination with Fund Development strategies, develop effective social media, public relations and communication strategies and key messages for varied donor constituencies. 
  • Support ED and other lead staff to align specific fundraising strategies with program and organizational priorities.
  • Create and execute a multi-year plan for the improvement and building of AROC’s development infrastructure, including but not exclusively its donor database.
  • Plan fundraising cultivation events, and manage volunteers and logistics
  • Manage fundraising campaigns, donations and acknowledgements in donor database, and use data to analyze results and inform planning.


Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience leading multi-faceted development programs.
  • Experience in building a comprehensive individual donor program, including cultivating donor relationships, soliciting and securing major gifts from individual donors, grassroots fundraising, and managing and supporting staff and volunteer fundraisers. 
  • Experience in building fundraising infrastructure to serve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability in securing foundation grants and other institutional support, including prospect research, cultivation and writing grant proposals.
  • Ability to prepare effective, compelling messages for prospects and donors, including the use of electronic communications.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and broadly and also pay attention to detail.
  • Track record of planning, prioritizing, organizing, and following through with limited resources.
  • Ability to work independently and in partnership with organizational leaders.
  • Proficiency with computer operations and programs, including donor databases and platforms such as Salesforce, Mail Chimp, Network for Good, Act Blue, and others that support fundraising efforts.
  • Agreement and alignment with AROC’s vision and values.

Due to COVID and the ever evolving new variants, we continue to work remotely and while our preference is for all our staff to work in the San Francisco, Bay Area, we would consider this position to be temporarily or permanently remote.
