Organization Overview

At Common Future, we imagine a future where people, no matter their race or ethnicity, have power, choice, and ownership over the economy. Founded in 2001, we know that the ideas, models, and solutions that can restore community wealth already exist, they just require attention and investment. We work with hundreds of community leaders and funders through flexible initiatives that build inclusive economies. These initiatives are centered around shifting capital, uplifting local leaders, and advising the development of equitable economies. We are a 17 person organization (and growing). Our culture values equity, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and experimentation.

Position Overview

The Associate of Programs joins a collaborative team working directly with the Common Future network on initiatives that build inclusive, equitable economies. This is a junior-level position that will support a portfolio of projects. Working here, you’ll deepen your understanding of what it takes to change an economic system and be positioned to grow your career in this field. As our ideal candidate you are passionate about the work of Common Future. You have some work experience and/or knowledge about the fields of social entrepreneurship, philanthropy, or impact investing. And you want to use your exemplary organization, administrative, and analytical abilities to close the racial wealth gap. We believe that the playbook to fix a broken economic system doesn’t exist. As such, our work is experimental. Our initiatives and your role will continue to iterate as we do. Current responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Program Support

  • Get to know the most edge-pushing, forward-thinking leaders doing inclusive economies work in the US and Canada by researching and reading about them, communicating with them via email and phone, and supporting them at events
  • Assist with activities that build the network and our overall field of inclusive economies
  • Connect leaders to one another and to resources that support their work
  • Contribute to program strategy informed by your experience and understanding of our work
  • Update spreadsheets, Salesforce, and our website
  • Take meeting notes, send out action items, and follow-up as needed
  • Coordinate meetings and send out calendar invites
  • Complete expense reports and do basic financial reconciliations

Research Assistance and Knowledge Management

  • Research key topics related to inclusive economies and equity
  • Review and analyze data that identifies gaps, themes, and other information that contributes to our work
  • Assist with data collection and pulling information for teams
  • Maintain informational database related to initiatives and network leaders

Events and Logistics

  • Work with team leads on agendas, meeting materials, note-taking, and other communications as needed
  • Research event platforms or venues that align with Common Future values
  • Draft invitations and logistics emails
  • Provide technical and logistical support to participants
  • Manage caterers, vendors, and contractors, as needed for specific projects
  • Order and manage inventory of supplies for specific projects

Desired Qualifications

  • Passionate about the mission and work of Common Future and its extraordinary network of leaders
  • Some knowledge or experience in the fields of community economic development, inclusive entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and/or impact investing
  • Some experience in planning and executing events, both online and in-person
  • Ability to foresee what’s needed and take the initiative to get the job done
  • Comfortable with frequent change, ambiguity, and building while flying
  • Stellar verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter and able to meet deadlines or communicate when you might fall behind or need guidance
  • Growth mindset around problem-solving, with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Energized by continuous learning
  • Results-oriented
  • Comfortable with a Mac and productivity software - Google Apps, MS Apps, etc.
  • Experience organizing and collaborating on multiple projects via business communications platforms such as Slack, Asana, etc is a plus.
  • Experience using Salesforce or Wordpress is a plus.
  • You like to travel. A minimum of 2-3 weeks per year.
