Founded initially after September 11th, 2001, the Restaurant

Opportunities Centers United (ROC United) has grown into a national

organization with more than 30,000 restaurant worker members in New York, the

San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Massachusetts, Chicago, Michigan, New

Orleans, Pennsylvania, Seattle, and Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve

wages and working conditions for the nation’s restaurant workforce. In

California, we are building a movement to win workplace justice campaigns and are

advancing “One Fair Wage” (OFW) legislation that will raise wages for

restaurant workers, address sexual harassment and help eradicate occupational

segregation (based on race and gender) in the restaurant industry.



 



ABOUT

ROC The Bay

The Restaurant Opportunities Center of the Bay Area (ROC-The

Bay) is an affiliate worker center of ROC-United that was founded in 2013 in

Oakland, California. We have over 300 worker members and dozens of restaurant

employers throughout the Bay Area. Our mission is ​to promote and ensure a just

and dignified workplace in restaurants throughout the Bay Area and to build a

strong and unified community of restaurant workers. We operate the COLORS

Hospitality Opportunity for Workers (CHOW) job training program that trains

over 125 low-income workers.            

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Lead Organizer, the ROC the Bay

Organizer will:

●      Grow and develop ROC-the Bay’s worker membership recruited

through the CHOW program in order to advance local workplace justice campaigns

and California’s campaign(s).

○       This includes: directing the weekly outreach

to restaurant workers and engaging worker leaders in doing the same; engaging

in organizing strategies and campaigns as needed by the organizing team. We

want to build even stronger ties with Bay Area restaurant workers, and your

role is to bring students to be part of our collective mission. It could

include helping restaurant workers from the program with work-related issues

they may be having, and guiding them to appropriate resources.



●      Operate our community-based CHOW hospitality job training

program.


○       This includes: hiring, contracting qualified

and experienced instructors; coordinating with our COLORS tenant to run the

training program from our Restore Oakland building; handling all administrative

functions to ensure the smooth operation of job training program; recruit,

retain and train at least 100 CHOW graduates annually; maintain key

relationships with community organizations to advance and facilitate the

operation of our job training program; and update and develop the CHOW

curriculum as needed, as well as; and print and deliver class materials as

needed.



●      Develop a job placement pipeline by:



○       Organizing CHOW Graduation & Job Fairs for

each graduating session of classes.



○       Throughout the year, developing strong

relationships with high road employers to help transition students into jobs

post graduation



○       Create a system of support to both assess and

guide students’ job readiness.



○       Maintaining a 60%-70% placement or promotion

the rate for CHOW graduates.



●      Deepen restaurant worker engagement in the Village, a restaurant worker share-care

community app



○       This includes recruiting 100 parents to join, assisting in

the formation of circles of trust, and assisting parents in using the app to schedule

childcare sharing opportunities



●      High Road Employer Responsibilities:



○      Recruit and maintain engagement with like-minded high road employers with the goal of

introducing them to our mission, transitioning students into jobs at their workplaces,

and building a community of employers committed to a just restaurant industry

unique skills and talents that they could contribute to our programs and

campaigns;

creatively surmount obstacles; and



●     Organizing and are committed to mentoring

people to be agents of their own liberation.



 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


●      Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice and a

willingness to work collaboratively with persons of diverse racial and ethnic

backgrounds, socioeconomic status, ages, and sexual orientations;



●      Case-management experience;


●      Organizing experience is preferred;



●      Restaurant management and work experience is a plus;


●      Experience parenting young children; and


●      Fluency in oral and written Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Tagalog,

and/or Cantonese is strongly preferred.


SALARY AND BENEFITS



Compensation: This is a full-time position under the collective bargaining unit.  Generous benefits, including health and dental coverage, retirement plan, paid vacation, personal

days, and holidays. Salary range is $45,547-$53,601.00commensurate with experience.
