About Evidence Action

Our organization was founded in 2013 to address a big gap in the fight against global poverty–many of the most promising interventions are either implemented at a very small scale, or not at all. We set out to address this gap by building programs that would scale evidence-based and cost-effective interventions, leading to significant improvements in quality of life for hundreds of millions of people.

Our model worked. In less than a decade, our two flagship programs, the Deworm the World Initiative and Dispensers for Safe Water, have grown to measurably impact over 280 million people each year. This success is achieved through the dedication and talent of our staff, the hard work of our partners, and the commitment of our supporters.

By 2024, we seek to double our impact. We are strengthening and expanding our existing programs, and working to identify a new generation of evidence-based and cost-effective interventions that we can scale to reach millions more.

 Job title

Senior Associate, External Relations

Job purpose

Evidence Action has grown quickly over the past few years. As we move into the next phase of organizational growth, the External Relations team is seeking to increase our visibility and recognition with a wider audience, grow and diversify our donor and supporter base, and help shift the development sector towards more evidence-based and cost-effective decision-making.

We are looking for a Senior Associate to provide support across the fundraising, communications, and stakeholder engagement functions within the External Relations team. This person will report directly to the Senior Manager of External Relations, while working closely with other members of the External Relations, Program, and Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) teams based in the USA, multiple countries in Africa and Asia, and Australia.

Evidence Action places high value on personal qualities: responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, and work ethic. We seek a highly committed and adaptable individual who can deliver quality results within quickly changing circumstances. The ideal candidate:

  • Is deeply passionate about Evidence Action’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Is eager to gain a breadth of experience and has a “roll-up your sleeves” mentality.
  • Is a solution-oriented and adaptable team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and unstructured environment.
  • Is detail-oriented and will be adept at managing the many moving pieces involved with philanthropic grants and integrated campaigns.
  • Is comfortable with remote working and driving results in a global and matrixed environment.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Supporting a centralized workflow – including work planning and project coordination – across the fundraising, communications, and stakeholder engagement functions within the External Relations team
  • Researching potential donors and developing donor profiles
  • Supporting the development of funding proposals and pitches
  • Tracking funding opportunities in Salesforce and supporting the ‘traffic management’ of Evidence Action’s donor portfolio
  • Supporting the implementation of integrated fundraising and communications campaigns
  • Researching key development sectors and supporting landscape analyses
  • Supporting various special projects, and other relevant duties as assigned, in response to opportunities and challenges as they emerge.

Qualifications, skills, and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, with at least one year in a resource mobilization or stakeholder engagement role.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong research skills, and the ability to synthesize and communicate findings.
  • A demonstrated ability to support comprehensive, multi-faceted project plans.
  • A demonstrated ability to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • A demonstrated passion for international development initiatives.
  • Comfort working and building trust with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Comfort working with geographically distributed staff and matrixed teams.
  • High overall digital literacy.

Position location

The successful candidate will be located in Washington D.C., alongside the majority of the External Relations team. However, the office has temporarily moved to remote work during the pandemic, and this role reports directly to the Senior Manager, External Relations, based in Australia. In addition, we work with teams spread across the globe and occasionally have early morning/late night meetings to accommodate multiple time zones. Full-time remote work could therefore be considered for an exceptional candidate.
