SUMMARY: Reporting to the Youth Development Director, the Youth & Family Therapist will work closely with at-risk youth and their families focused on strengths-based model of care. The Youth & Family Therapist maintains a caseload of 20-25 youth, ages 10-18, and 15-20 parents who are highly impacted by social and environmental risk factors. The Youth & Family Therapist will take a lead role, working with a strategy team in the youth development department. The Youth & Family Therapist must be culturally and linguistically competent and adept to working with family systems, building trusting relationships with them.

ESSENTIAL JOB ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and conduct weekly parent support groups
  • Develop and conduct weekly student support groups
  • Implement and lead youth individual weekly coaching sessions
  • Conduct strengths-based family meetings and work on genogram
  • Ensure each youth and family develop a plan of action based on assets/strengths, identification of problem behaviors and possible solutions, and build family agreements.
  • Cultivate positive social identity, positive parenting skills and problem-solving skills
  • Lead strategy team meetings on a weekly basis to determine progress of phases
  • Work with team to ensure each enrolled student and family work through phases to achieve desired progress, and family celebration of achievement.
  • Coordinate with other internal and external partners to provide referrals as appropriate.
  • Participate in youth and family events and/or outside activities such as camps, field trips, etc. as needed.
  • Maintain all records and data in an organized manner and input data in a timely manner to aid in reporting and evaluation.
  • Provide for follow-up/reassessment, collect outcome information, and assess “sufficient progress”. Collect other indicators of improvement (school performance, and self-differentiation) and overall growth in assets, strengths, and progress on genogram.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling and/or social work.
  • Must hold a California License for Social Work
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish, proficient in speaking, writing, and reading.
  • Must have experience working with urban youth and families, demonstrate cultural competency
  • Must exercise discretion and confidentiality when interacting with clients.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience in case management services and possess the ability to set client behavioral boundaries.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism in communication, teamwork, technical skills and be comfortable working with data
  • Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal history background check.
