About the organization

Common Good Iowa is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 2020 from the merger of the two long-standing Iowa organizations, the Child and Family Policy Center and Iowa Policy Project. Our team of policy advocates and researchers leverage reliable data and collaborative relationships to craft people-centered policy solutions for our state's most pressing issues. Our vision is a just, equitable Iowa with strong public structures, where children and families are healthy and secure, workers thrive, and clean air and water mean a healthy future for all.

• Engage outside groups and individuals, including the media, policy makers, community and advocacy groups and legislators.

• Contribute to other CGI research projects as assigned as part of the organization’s collaborative project design, production and review process.

• Contribute to the financial health of the organization by occasionally participating in policy-oriented fundraising events and identifying new sources of funding.

Minimum qualifications

• A commitment to race equity and social justice.

• A master’s degree in economics, public policy, planning or similar field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree and significant experience in economic research or public policy analysis will be considered.

• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues clearly.

• Strong statistical skills.

• Education or experience relating to budget analysis, economic policy, labor issues and/or collective bargaining.

• Experience working with census and labor market data.
