The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship seeks a half-time manager of communications and digital organizing to create, implement, and manage a communications strategy that amplifies the mission of PPF and grows and activates our base of activists, faith-rooted organizers, and donors.

Who we are: PPF is a nonprofit (501(c)3) historic peace organization (founded in 1944) committed to social transformation through nonviolence. We seek to empower and equip members of the PC(USA) and our partners to show up for and come alongside social justice movements in meaningful ways.

We seek to hire someone who has skills to support this as we communicate and work through various platforms. A commitment to ending war and violence undergirds all of our work; current areas of work are gun violence prevention, accompaniment of human rights defenders in Colombia and Mexico, building a network of peace churches, divesting from fossil fuels, and defunding the police. We have over 150 members across the US.

What you’ll do:

Create and implement a communications strategy and plan:

  • Support program and issue areas in creating messaging and getting out that message (whether for outreach, fundraising, organizing people to advocacy and/or other action, sharing resources, etc)
  • Participate as a member of the development committee to help create consistent and meaningful messaging that supports other areas of PPF’s work  
  • Define metrics to assess effectiveness of communications strategy and regularly monitor and report on outcomes

Manage website and social media:

  • Create and/or solicit timely and engaging content for social media platforms and the PPF website that are action-oriented (attending an event or action, making advocacy phone calls, learning more about an issue, donating, etc).
  •  Support and equip volunteers to write and communicate effectively and meaningfully about the issues PPF works on
  • Support volunteers who create a quarterly print newsletter

Digital organizing:

  • Assist in the creation of strategic actions in collaboration and coalition with staff, volunteers, and partner groups for our base to take
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to develop a model for PPF’s leadership development/ladder of engagement for members, activists, and donors to advance our campaigns and organizing efforts

Who you are (must-haves):

  • Committed to nonviolence, antiracism, and equity
  • Collaborative: works well with staff colleagues, volunteers, and partners to support each other’s’ work and suggest ways to better communicate our messages across all issues and platforms
  • Organized: an ability to manage various tasks and deadlines as well as things that come up at the last minute (as urgent advocacy needs sometimes do)
  • Initiative-taking: someone who anticipates problems and thinks ahead to solve them and who feels a sense of ownership of their work (but also asks for help when needed)
  • Able to communicate with a theological lens about social issues (please note: this does NOT mean that an ideal candidate necessarily has any formal theological training)
  • Experienced in community organizing of some kind (whether on local or national level, digital or in person)
  • Have general knowledge of the PC(USA) and a general understanding of the landscape and dynamic of current social movements

Some basic skills in graphic design are desirable but not required.

What else you should know:

This is a half-time (20 hours per week) remote position supervised by the Executive Director. The hours are largely flexible, with some recurring required meetings (about 4-5 per month) and some required in-person* (about 2-3 per year) and virtual events (5-10 per year) (i.e. gatherings of the PPF Activist Council once per year, PCUSA General Assemblies).

Compensation: $25,700 annually + benefits that include a flexible spending account, generous vacation and sick days, and a robust family leave policy.
