Programs Associate

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and disability, globally — yet there continues to be an underinvestment in action and financing.

The Health Finance Institute (HFI) is a global-health start-up working to change this. We use, translate, and analyze evidence to prioritize and educate investments for funders and investors, and work with them to develop tailored financing solutions that generate the greatest impact. We aim to increase capital for chronic diseases and create economic, social, and health gains in the short- and long-term. We are global health specialists that work with the private sector, countries, financial partners, and international organizations to develop partnerships between the public and private sector and broker investments that address the NCD financing gap.

We are seeking a Programs Associate who will be responsible for providing programmatic and project support to HFI’s programs and business development activities and contributing their global and public health expertise to key documents and communications. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate, driven and motivated. We are looking for someone that has experience in global/public health, business development, and/or innovative financing. This position will report to the Chief of Staff.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support business development, thought leadership/communications, and partnership programs by maintaining project management boards for all programs, notetaking and capturing actions in internal and external meetings, and supporting content creation;
  • Contribute your global and public health expertise in documents and communications to be published or shared externally;
  • Specific business development responsibilities include but are not limited to drafting grant applications and proposals, providing briefing notes ahead of key external meetings, and facilitating weekly internal business development meetings;
  • Specific thought leadership/communications responsibilities include but are not limited to contributing and expanding your global and public health and innovative finance expertise, conducting desktop research, drafting blogs, newsletters, social media posts, reports, and other content, coordinating events and webinars, and identifying new publication, event, or thought leadership opportunities;
  • Specific partnership responsibilities include but are not limited to identifying and submitting applications/outreach for new partnership opportunities, providing briefing notes ahead of key external meetings, and helping to prioritize different partnership activities;
  • Ensure the Executives, Health Economics, Innovative Finance, and other HFI teams stay in-sync;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health, public policy, international development, health economics, impact investing, or other related discipline (or currently enrolled in program) or Bachelor’s degree with 2 additional years of experience;
  • 2-3 years of experience working in business development, thought leadership, communications or partnerships in the public or global health field.
  • Preference for candidates with NCD, impact investing, or blended finance experience;
  • Passionate, driven and intrinsically motivated;
  • Independent team player who takes initiative and is not afraid to ask questions;
  • Strong and professional communication skills;
  • Demonstrated excellence in an academic and professional setting;
  • Ability to wear multiple hats at multiple times, and agility to pivot as this is a dynamic startup;
  • Experience in coordinating and creating outputs for diverse audiences including technical and lay stakeholders.
