The Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financial transactions of The Children’s Inn including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and depreciation. This individual provides internal financial reporting and serves as back up to the Sr. Director of Finance and other finance personnel in their absence.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date files and ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial transactions
- Manage, monitor and maintain current information and appropriate balances in current operating funds and cash flows
- Assist with preparation of TCI’s annual audit and appropriate tax returns and government filings
- Prepare monthly financial statements for Finance Committee, Board of Directors and budget managers and manage month-end close
- Support Finance and Audit Committee meetings, including scheduling meetings, recording minutes and providing requested information.
- Respond to financial inquires regarding The Inn and follow up on financial correspondence
- Assist with coordination and preparation of annual and long-term budgets
- Support other departments by providing financial information for publications, grants and other applications as needed
- Provide internal reports to staff for expenditures, budgeting and other financial information as needed
- Manage Capital Asset database, including capital asset purchase, disposals, depreciation, maintenance agreements, and warrantees. Oversee annual physical inventory
- Act as back-up to the Sr. Director of Finance including oversight of finance and accounting functions, internal controls, audit, tax returns, policy enforcement, and liaison to Finance and Audit Committee as needed or in the event of an extended absence
- Act as back-up to other finance department personnel as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Promote a homelike environment of support and understanding for residents of the Inn
- Become familiar with all Inn rules, policies and services as they relate to the families residing at The Children’s Inn
- Maintain flexibility and acknowledge stress of communal living.
- Meet the reasonable needs of Inn residents
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in accounting or a related field strongly preferred. Preference will be given to a candidate with a master’s degree and/or professional certification.
Minimum of 5 years accounting experience required. Experience in a non-profit, producing financial statements, strongly preferred.
Advanced skills required in database management, excel, bookkeeping, accounting programs, and word processing programs. IT experience helpful. Must have strong oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Strategic thinker with analytical ability, good judgment, strong operational focus and high ethical standards. Must be detail-oriented, have a positive attitude and work well in a team-oriented environment.
Must be in good general health with no history of chronic diseases that could be hazardous to the residents of The Children’s Inn.
Official schedule is Monday through Friday.
