HEAF is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career and life. Using a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer programs, HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they are admitted to and graduate from four-year colleges.  

 

About the Position: College Quest, HEAF'S high school program, is looking for an energetic and engaging instructor with a background in career and technical education. HEAF's Industry Immersion Program is a personal and professional preparatory program for HEAF high school students. Designed for curious and motivated students with aspirations to broaden their knowledge and position them for success, our program provides a transformational learning experience and an introduction to college and life as a career professional.  The program aims to help students understand the fundamentals of academic learning in the real world, provide opportunities to begin building connections and a network in fields of interest, as well as chart short-term and long-term plans. 

Program Hours and Schedule: 

September 2021– June 2022

Tuesdays 4:15 pm – 5:15 pm *Virtually*

Please note: We are currently offering virtual programming for all students participating in Industry Immersion, which is subject to change as the health implications of the COVID-19 pandemic improves. The course is taught to a mixed group of 9th-12th Graders from various NYC High Schools

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and facilitate Industry Immersion lessons on professional and personal skill development
  • Provide students with a virtual introduction to a variety of industries and companies  
  • Introduce students to the importance of shaping workplace skills
  • Maintain strong relationships with students to ensure cohesion and fluidity throughout the course
  • Support students growth and development as they continue to explore career options and expand their professional network
  • Communicate students program information, including schedule, lesson plans, and other relevant materials
  • Assist students in building their professional networks; support with securing relevant speakers and panelists who can connect with students and contribute to their learning
  • Support the professional development of HEAF students through ongoing communication and check-ins with students during the course of the program 
  • Facilitate weekly discussions and activities with corporate volunteers and students to maximize student learning and growth 


Qualification and Job Responsibilities:

  • A strong background in career development & technical education
  • Bachelor's Degree Required in related fields, Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in  middle school, high school, or Community Based Organizations
  • Impeccable classroom management skills
  • Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff
  • Ability and willingness to commit to the entire program, including attending all trips and excursions
  • Ability and willingness to have FUN in the classroom
  • Maintain regular communication with students to ensure consistent engagement and attendance 
  • Meet with the College Quest team and consultants to build on the strengths of the program

 

Compensation: 

Hourly wage: $50 per instructional hour, $15 per administrative hour
