Under the direction of the Senior Center Director work to ensure food is prepared and distribution for breakfast and lunch. Food is prepared following approved menus, is completed in a timely and quality fashion. Under the supervision of the Senior Center Director ensure compliance with funders and NYC Health Department


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two to four years of cooking experience in a restaurant or catering business
  • Cooking seniors experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must hold current, valid Food Protection Certificate
  • Must be able to lift items up to 35lbs

Responsibilities/ Duties:

  • Participate in menu planning, submit food orders to director, and oversee weighing-in, receiving and proper storage of food.
  • Prepare, cook, and supervise portioning and serving food
  • Ensure the cleaning of the kitchen equipment and performing other task as needed in order to meet the approved operation standards
  • Supervise the handling and proper temperature control of prepared foods
  • Work with volunteer who assist in meal preparation
  • Help maintain sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas
  • Attend training(s) as requested by the Director of the Senior Center
  • Complete the course(s) in food protection
  • Supervise the packaging and delivery of meals to satellites and to the home bound (if applicable)
  • Maintain food usage records and assist in taking monthly physical inventory
