WHAT YOU’LL DO
At a time of dramatic growth in the organization, Stanford Impact Labs (SIL) is hiring an inaugural Director of Finance and Administration to build and implement strong financial and administrative practices. Your work will establish best practices, support continued growth and compliance, and inform decision-making about SIL’s future. Specifically, the Director of Finance and Administration will:
- Develop financial models to manage the $15+ million annual operating budget and to inform SIL’s programmatic arc, including an endowment strategy, in the context of a major university fundraising effort.
- Directly oversee the strategy and management of all SIL financial and administrative operations to ensure compliance, create timely and accurate reports, monitor budgets, and improve processes.
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team shaping growth and impact of SIL, providing evidence-based recommendations about spending, grantmaking, team management, and hiring.
- Improve and lead SIL recruiting, outreach, and hiring processes. Refine onboarding and serve as key liaison between SIL and Stanford HR.
- Responsibly steward and optimize the use of funds to accomplish the SIL mission of social impact.
- Develop and implement best practices in hiring, contract development, software licenses, the use of office space and facilities, and professional development.
- Serve as point of contact with key partners in finance, HR, facilities, and other administrative offices at Stanford Humanities and Sciences, as well as Stanford’s Office of Development liaisons.
- Collaborate with SIL and Humanities and Sciences staff to ensure accuracy and timeliness of SIL’s Salesforce CRM database, create annual reports, and develop donor-facing materials.
- Develop and administer training for SIL staff for finance, budgeting, CRM maintenance, hiring, submitting transactions and reimbursements, and other administrative processes.
- Eventually supervise, coach, and develop up to 2 direct reports.
WHO YOU ARE
- You are excited to build organizations. You have demonstrated experience developing the processes and systems required to grow organizations.
- You are a skilled finance and administrative professional with 5+ years of experience and a track record of success. You have experience both creating and tracking financial models, and doing the day-to-day work of ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial systems.
- You are a collaborative team member. You have experience advising leadership, providing evidence-driven recommendations, and managing teams. You are comfortable working on dynamic teams and overcoming roadblocks to accomplish your goals.
- You are an effective communicator. You have demonstrated experience explaining complex financial concepts to different audiences, and have trained team members in financial and administrative best practices.
- You are a flexible, resourceful, and well-organized project manager. You have a proven track record of coordinating multi-faceted and complex projects, including the ability to anticipate issues, develop proactive solutions, and engage the right people to support and champion success.
- You are a team leader, invested in team members’ and other stakeholders’ growth and development. You have the ability to provide training, coaching, and mentoring for staff. You have management experience with direct reports and are eager to grow our finance and administration team.
- You are a catalyst for racial and social justice work. You care about social inequities and systems of oppression. You have a demonstrated track record of working effectively across lines of difference. You are committed to centering equity and inclusion in programs and practices.
- You thrive in a dynamic, open, and collaborative work environment. You are at home in a lean start-up environment with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of rapid change. You believe in collaboration and including a diversity of views, experiences, and perspectives.
WE WOULD ALSO LOVE
- Familiarity with Stanford’s financial and administrative systems, including Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI), PeopleSoft, Stanford’s gift processing transmittal process, labor schedules, labor distribution adjustments, SeRA and sponsored research policies, Taleo and other hiring and appointment processes and webforms, space oversight databases, and more.
