CHINA Town Hall and Other National Engagement

The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join its program team. This program officer position will oversee programming that engages and partners with academic centers, as well as professional, and trade associations located around the country, chief of which is CHINA Town Hall. All staff members are expected to be committed to the National Committee’s mission and represent the organization in a professional manner.

Program officers are ultimately responsible for all aspects of their programs, from planning and budgeting to execution and follow-up. While staff members must be flexible and often wear several hats, we strive for consistency with regard to program workload, so program officers will occasionally be required to help out in other programmatic areas.

Key Functions

  • Research and conceptualize all aspects of future CHINA Town Hall programs, including producing the webcast keynote discussion, and other related programming
  • Develop partnerships with the leadership of umbrella professional and trade associations, as well as individual branches located around the country
  • Oversee the day-to-day programmatic, logistical, administrative, and wrap-up of portfolio programs
  • Collaborate with senior staff members and program assistants to attain program related goals

Additional Responsibilities

  • Draft and coordinate the dissemination of programmatic electronic and printed communications
  • Set up/manage invitations and registration systems as needed
  • Deliver programs on budget, and conduct all necessary vendor bidding, expense reimbursements, and invoicing
  • Oversee/support travel and logistics, as needed
  • Maintain participant records in Salesforce database
  • Keep current on China-related articles in the academic and popular arenas for use in program-related materials for delegations and other events

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the U.S.-China relationship
  • Broad-based knowledge of U.S. professional and trade organizations, as well as China-focused centers located at academic institutions; experience working for/with a professional/trade organization (or comparable) is a desired asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong time-management skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a nonprofit environment with some evening and weekend work
  • Solid writing and editing skills
  • Program evaluation skills and grant-writing experience are desired assets
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of project/program management; B.A. required, M.A. in relevant discipline preferred
  • U.S. work authorization required
