Position Mission: To facilitate the delivery of programming that offers growth and meaningful progression for youth and resident camp staff members in a safe and inclusive environment.


REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Camp Programs and Operations reports to the Executive Director and serves on the organizational leadership team as well as other cross departmental teams and committees.  They supervise directly or indirectly all seasonal resident camp staff as well as the year-round resident camp team.

POSITION AVAILABILITY

May through August: Resides in the 4-bedroom Director’s home on the 650-acre LVC resident camp property in the rolling hills of the driftless region in Boscobel, WI.


October: A planning and preparation month; significant time is spent with the leadership team and full LVC team, setting the tone, creating goals and planning for the upcoming year.   


November through April: expected to be in the Milwaukee office a minimum of 2 days each week and will be overseeing some afterschool and weekend programs as well as preparation for summer camp.  There is generally a weekly in-person LVC staff meeting and a bi-weekly leadership team meeting.









BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY


As a key member of the LVC leadership team, this team member has supervision, management, and design responsibility for all resident camp related programs (includes trip-based and adventure education), staff, systems and operations.  They adhere to organizational policies and best practices while innovating and contributing to the continual evolution and enhancement of offerings.


As a senior member of the program team, the Director of Camp Programs and Operations is asked to serve as a support and internal advisor to ensure program cohesion, consistency, and progression between camp programming and school-year/year-round programming.


This team member recruits and develops staff that understand and represent our young people and is responsible for creating and maintaining an environment and experience that ensures the physical and emotional safety of all camp participants and staff.


This team member is responsible for budget creation, oversees departmental spending, and fiscally responsible decision making.


This team member oversees the management and smooth operations of the Resident Camp facilities which includes maintaining a long-term plan for maintenance and preservation.

Familiarity with and comfort in overseeing the American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation process and adherence to ACA standards.


Self starter with a track record of success in achieving organizational objectives, including the conception and implementation of new program initiatives and supporting sustainability for existing programs.

Committed to developing others and building a goals-focused, highly skilled and high performing team.

Calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure safety and well-being of participants and staff.

Effective and efficient management and use of time; the ability to prioritize and attend to the most urgent and important matters and tasks.

Technologically savvy with ability to learn systems quickly.  Familiarity with Google Drive and client management databases a plus.

Bilingual (English & Spanish) speaker highly preferred but not required.  


CERTIFICATIONS

Must have a driver’s license valid in the State of Wisconsin


Valid CPR and First Aid certification is required within the first 30 days of employment (LVC can support in attaining)





EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree required – Must have a degree in education, recreation, camp management, social work, psychology, or other related and applicable field.

Experience serving youth facing social and/or economic hurdles; comfort working with diverse populations and as a member of a diverse multidisciplinary team.


A minimum of 3 years in progressively responsible roles in a resident camp setting; previous camp director experience preferred.

Must be at least 25 years of age in accordance with ACA accreditation standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting.   


The ability to travel to and from resident camp in western Wisconsin often is a must.  A reliable personal vehicle is essential (mileage is reimbursable). This position lives on-site at the resident camp during the summer months and will require frequent visits to the camp during the school year.


Must be comfortable working in an office setting in the “off-season”, situated in an urban setting in the community we serve.
