Set in the vibrant and picturesque community of Capon Bridge, WV, The River House (TRH) is a dynamic rising star in the arts world, a non-profit organization of consequence. We are seeking an organizational leader, strategic thinker, and energetic people-person with a deep love of the arts to lead a young organization into a new stage of growth and programming.

The mission of TRH is to provide a fun, welcoming space where participation in the Arts inspires deep community connections and nourishes the lives of individuals and families. Although TRH is relatively new (4 years) and small, it hosts a very diverse set of arts and music programs both indoors and out, in its historic building and beautiful setting on the banks of the Cacapon River. TRH also operates a café on the premises.

The River House has a strong and loyal base of donors, volunteers, community partners and patrons. The operations are financially sound, including having weathered the pandemic in solid condition. TRH employs 10 full- and part-time staff who are overseen by the Executive Director. Dedicated volunteers further support many aspects of operations. Key paid positions include: Arts Coordinator, Music Manager, Marketing Manager and two Café Managers.

Primary Responsibilities

Overall Organization Management

·     Ensure proper administration of program development, organizational management, and financial oversight

·     Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the arts and non-profit fields and apply them to TRH

·     Participate in all Board meetings and relevant Board Committees (Executive, Finance, Development, etc.}

·     Provide timely and regular communication with the Board Chair on the condition of the organization and all-important factors influencing TRH

·     Review/prepare, monitor and approve all contracted services (performers, vendors, building and property maintenance, etc.)

·     Work with TRH Board to develop both long-term strategic and short-term business plans to advance the mission of TRH

·     Update existing/develop new policies and procedures for administrative and operational needs

Staff & Volunteer Management 

·     Manage and evaluate all staff

·     Develop an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession

·     Encourage staff and volunteer development and education

·     Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people

·     Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work 

Programs (Arts & Café) 

·     Oversee the development and implementation of a robust arts and music program. 

·     Provide oversight of Café operations and lead exploration of alternate management options to best serve TRH mission and its patrons

·     Develop, implement and modify as needed an appropriate assessment and evaluation of all programming activities

·     Establish relationships with other area, state, and national Arts-based organizations to create opportunities for collaboration and idea exchange

Marketing, Communications and External Relations

·     Lead and implement the organization’s communications and public outreach plan

·     Assume a visible role in the community and establish working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, agencies, organizations, and the general public

Fundraising 

·     Develop and lead team-based fund development and revenue-generating strategies with the Board Development Committee

·     Oversee the management of grants

·     Maintain existing and establish new relationships with donors, community partners, and grantmaking organizations

Budget & Finance 

·     Develop and maintain sound financial practices

·     Work with Board Treasurer and Executive Committee to prepare, present for approval, and report upon an annual budget

·     With designated officers, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and execute legal documents

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be able to creatively lead our well-established, well-respected, and financially secure organization into a new period of growth and expanded, exceptional programming.

·     Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Arts Administration, Business Administration, or Nonprofit Management

·     At least three to five years of experience in an executive leadership or nonprofit management position, preferably related to the arts. Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

·      Supervisory, personnel management and communication skills

·     Experience with providing financial oversight for an organization

·     Strong public speaking skills and ability to effectively articulate TRH’s mission to a wide range of audiences.

·     Excellent writing skills

·     Proficiency with computer applications and office systems

·     Excellent organizational and planning capabilities

·     Ability to work independently when necessary, and also collaboratively

·     Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships

·     Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders

·     Sensitivity to the highly diverse populations that the organization may serve

·     Experience with food service

·     Passion for the Arts

Salary

$35,000 - $44,000The salary is based on previous professional experience.
