Safe Horizon's mission is to provide support, prevent violence and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities.
The Brooklyn Family Court Program offers case management and practical assistance to victims of crime. The overall goal of the program is to reduce the impact of victimization through advocacy, case management, and other support services. The Senior Case Manager provides case management services to victims of domestic violence involved in the family court system and victims of crimes committed by juvenile.
Essential Job Functions:
Ø Provide case management services and crisis intervention to victims and survivors of crime;
Ø Conduct client-centered safety assessments and prepare risk management plans;
Ø Provide court orientation, criminal justice advocacy, accompaniment and support;
Ø Provide emergency practical assistance and connect clients to other service providers as needed;
Ø Provide information and referrals for services such as shelters, long-term counseling, public assistance and other entitlements, and assistance with OVS applications;
Ø Advocate on behalf of clients with family court personnel, NYPD, NYCHA and other subsidized housing, employers, schools and other social service agencies;
Ø Provide technical assistance, consultation and opportunities for training new Case Managers and Client Advocates;
Ø Participate in staff meetings, community meetings and relevant trainings and seminars;
Ø Manage the program’s petty cash and MetroCard accounts;
Ø Perform data entry into a computerized record keeping system; and
Ø Various other duties to be determine by supervisor.
Secondary Job Functions:
Ø Attend internal and external meetings, trainings and workshops;
Ø Assist with the administration of direct services;

Knowledge and Skills:
Ø Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic violence;
Ø Strong communication and organizational skills;
Ø Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
Ø Ability to work as part of a team while also independently generating tasks.
Ø A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Ø Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and other victims of crime;
Ø Experience with the criminal justice/civil legal systems;
Ø Bilingual in Spanish or another language strongly preferred
