Position Summary:

The Community Resources department is responsible for UJA Federation of New York’s direct service programs. Currently this is focused on programs in the areas of talent development for Jewish communal professionals, advancing the synagogue and day school sectors, and community-based volunteerism. 

The Executive Director (ED) leads a team of nine professionals and works alongside a lay cabinet to advance the mission and annual priorities of Community Resources. The ED crafts an overarching vision for the department and ensures that each area of its work coheres with that vision. The ED is expected to effectively manage the CR team and ensure that each member has the direction and support needed to advance their work.  

Major Responsibilities: 

·        Working in conjunction with lay leadership, set the overall strategic direction and metrics for UJA’s Community Resources department 

·        Support members of the team in optimizing CR’s programs and grantmaking to achieve maximal impact in community   

·        Coordinate the individual departmental strategies into a single, cohesive vision that can be shared, monitored and measured

·        Effectively manage and lead the CR team to advance a clear set of annual goals and priorities 

·        Stay abreast of trends and needs in CR’s areas of focus  

·        Cultivate critical relationships, internally and in the priority fields

·        Effectively manage and oversee the CR budget  

·        Represent the work of CR and UJA Federation at key internal and external tables  

·        Lead and cultivate the Community Resources Cabinet 

·        Work alongside CPAR colleagues to ensure the work of CR is integrated with the other CPAR departments 

·        Respond to crises and changes in the landscape and shift programs accordingly  

·        Execute cross-cutting projects as they arise 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

·        Demonstrate expertise and experience in each of CR’s core content area 

·        Proven record of management of individuals and teams- both lay and professional

·        Clear capacity for both strategic thinking and meticulous execution of program 

·        A developed definition of excellence and success  

·        Master’s degree in Jewish education, public policy, social work, law, public administration, communal service or related fields preferred. 

·        10-15 years related professional experience in a Federation or similar organization preferred. 

·        10-15 years related practical experience in the field preferred.
