Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) is seeking an attorney in its Economic Advocacy and Community Health (EACH) Unit. The EACH Unit works on a wide range of state-issued public benefits issues including SNAP (Food Stamps), TANF (Cash Assistance), and Medicaid. The attorney would be also be required to handle Social Security Disability and SSI claims from initial through Federal Court. This exciting and demanding staff attorney position entails a combination of representation of individual clients in administrative hearings and court actions and community education. The staff attorney will work collaboratively with others in the unit to identify systemic issues, and develop strategies to address them, as well as to zealously represent individuals in need of benefits.  The staff attorney will also have related intake responsibilities and supervision of staff and interns as needed. 

Requirements: 

We seek applicants with the following qualifications:

·      Interest and ability to do systemic and direct client representation.

·      Experience preferred particularly in the area of Social Security law.   Entry level applicants will be considered if they have strong clinical or internship work experience in Social Security claims. 

·      Excellent work ethic, organization, and communication skills

·      Excellent legal research and writing skills

·      Experience and ability to work with low-income and vulnerable individuals, individuals with limited English proficiency and individuals in crisis with an urgent need for subsistence benefits

·      Illustrate a high level commitment to racial justice advocacy

·      Fluency in another language helpful, but not required

Florida Bar membership required or another State Bar is acceptable if willing to sit for the next Florida Bar exam.
