Hands-on Director with primary responsibility for running a well-established bilingual Senior Center in Washington Heights. Forms part of an executive team of four directors. Must be able to work effectively with team and alone. Creativity and cultural sensitivity are required

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee activities of the Senior Center, including congregate lunch, health promotion, and recreational and educational activities.

• Foster a positive atmosphere that cultivates a sense of belonging.

• Motivate individuals and groups to bring about a sense of accomplishment.

• Supervise Cook/Kitchen Manager/Custodian

• Work closely with Social Service Department, Executive Director and Fiscal Manager

• Ensure that facility maintains a clean and safe environment for seniors, staff and volunteers.

• Maintain Statistics for governmental grants

• Some grant writing required

• Manage Senior Center Budget

• Recruit, supervise, coordinate and motivate activities of volunteers, Title 5 workers, and students

• Plan all recreational and educational activities.

• Organize group and class activities.

• Coordinate special programs, events and trips.

• Prepare fliers, newsletters, bulletin boards, etc.

• Compile statistics, prepare reports, keep attendance and other records required by funding source.

• Represent agency in community and interagency activities as needed.

• Serve as translator when necessary.

This position offers individual health insurance benefit, four weeks vacation, and the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that works together to provide a range of services to older adults. Bachelors or Masters Degree with supervisory experience and experience in overseeing an active and vibrant program. Fluent in English and Spanish required. Well organized, energetic, outgoing, computer literate. Supervisory experience. Culturally sensitive. Human relations skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Experience with the elderly preferred.
