WOMEN’S COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION PROJECT

The Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), founded in 1987, is committed to social and economic equity for low-income women and their families. WCRP develops affordable housing, provides supportive services, advocates for policy change, honors and promotes leadership, dignity and justice in our communities. 


THE JOB OF THE ORGANIZING DIRECTOR

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, it is the responsibility of the Organizing Director to develop and guide WCRP’s organizing and advocacy work. These efforts support WCRP’s housing and equitable development agenda as well as serve as a vehicle for the development of leadership within the organization and the community as a whole.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the organization’s organizing, advocacy and strategic relationship building with individuals, institutions, public officials and other decision-makers with the goal of heightening the power and stature of WCRP in the community and city;
  • Forge new relationships to build the organization’s visibility, impact, and financial resources;
  • Work in WCRP’s target area to bring community residents and institutions together to fight for equitable development policies and programs;
  • Support WCRP’s constituents in developing their leadership and organizing skills;
  • Develop proposals for funding in conjunction with WCRP’s Executive Director and Fundraising staff;
  • Manage awarded grants, including supervising consultants and subcontractors, writing progress reports and managing budgets;
  • Supervise full-time community organizer and student interns.


REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of five years experience in community organizing, with a demonstrated commitment to the field.
  • Experience building and supporting coalitions.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide leadership and to build and nurture the leadership of others.
  • Experience in overseeing the administration of a program area.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy required.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Familiarity with issues, especially housing, which impact low-income women and children;
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends;
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia City government and politics.
