Executive Director

Summary

The Executive Director is a key person in the management of the headquarters of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, an international Asian-interest sorority with 58 chapters located at numerous universities across the United States and in Canada. Thousands of undergraduate and alumnae members support the rapidly growing network of strong and successful leaders, in which the role of Executive Director is vital to moving the sorority forward in its strategic objectives and maintaining university and community partnerships. The Executive Director will lead the team of volunteer staff within the framework of delegated authority and shall act as the sorority’s director for all operational matters.

What are the goals for this role?

Essential goals include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute the division of operations, workflows, and reporting relationships between the sorority’s volunteer staff and Board of Directors.
  • Inspire and motivate the leadership team with a target 50% retention rate in volunteers after the first term (typically 1 year for elected and appointed roles). Increase participation in staff meetings and projects across team members to 85%.
  • Prioritize team programs and initiatives to those supportive to the sorority’s strategic objectives. Ensure bandwidth within the team is fairly distributed and identify where additional resources are needed.
  • Evaluate current spending and recommend changes to increase operational capacity through efficient use of funds overall in the first year.
  • Increase leadership opportunities for undergraduate and alumnae members, including recruiting new volunteers to the team.

How can you be successful?

  • Advocate for the sorority’s core values (compassion, friendship, integrity, purpose-driven, authenticity) in everything that you do.
  • Promote a healthy and compassionate environment for the leadership and general members, making this the premiere community and space for the greater Greek-lettered community.
  • Be open to innovative ideas and technologies. We are a Google Suite team and fully embrace third-party applications that will improve our day-to-day operations.
  • Be an effective communicator, written and verbal, while considering various leadership and communication styles of your audience.

Who will you be working with?

You will report to the Board of Directors and lead roughly 25 volunteer staff officers and committee members. You will support the interests of both alumnae members and undergraduate members/chapters. You will also have the opportunity to work with university partners and develop strategic partnerships within various constituent groups, aligning with the sorority’s initiatives.

Where is this role based?

This role is part-time (max 20 hours per week, no benefits included) and is remote. Team members are based across 3 time zones in North America and primarily work virtually. Provided it is safe to do so, team members will travel and meet in-person 2-3 times each year for the annual convention and team retreats.
