Position Overview:

The Finance Associate is a member of our Finance and Accounting Team and supports the workstreams of budgeting and financial planning, analysis, and reporting. As part of the five-member Finance team, the Finance Associate works closely with the Development Organization and prepares proposal budgets for a variety of programs, including our direct program implementation as well as our new technical assistance program. In addition, the Finance Associate is responsible for designing and preparing donor reports describing project implementation progress. This role works closely with the Finance Manager in the creation of business processes and trainings to bring greater capacity and throughput potential to the organization’s Donor Finance function. The Finance Associate reports to the Finance Manager (Donor Finance).

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop budget proposals in partnership with Development relationship managers
  • Develop donor financial reports as required by project arrangements
  • Variance analysis reporting on projects, operations and staff cost centers
  • Support org wide timekeeping system to ensure current and accurate data
  • Design new templates and tools for Donor Finance budgeting and reporting, leveraging our cloud based GL and Planning and Analytics software to ensure efficient and well supported proposals
  • Work with the Finance Manager in the documentation of business processes to bring increased efficiency to the work of proposal development. Train other Finance and Development staff in these processes – including staff in our region and country offices
  • Help drive the development and analysis of Annual Pricing Strategies
  • Develop, facilitate and conduct training for the Development team on subjects such as program costing, expense management and grant budgeting
  • Create and maintain documentation and reference material for proposal budgeting and reporting 
  • Provide data and systems support to the Finance team as relevant
  • Assist with report testing, metric validation, assumptions loading in support of the annual budget process
  • Support systems administration with budget uploads, user updates in timekeeping system, and reporting
  • Support annual planning and budgeting
  • Support Finance Managers, Director and CFO with additional ad hoc projects



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Understanding of concepts of finance and accounting, particularly as it relates to donor finance
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated analytic experience, including business experience in budgeting, modeling and use of cloud based GL and FP&A systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong data analytic skills (high level Excel proficiency), Business Intelligence, and financial modeling
  • Detail oriented and organized, able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided


  • Experience with non-profit donor proposal development, with knowledge of US Government funding requirements, including compliance
  • Grants financial administration experience with multi-lateral/bi-lateral and corporate donors
  • General ledger knowledge and experience; preferably with the Intacct cloud-based GL system
  • Experience with cloud based planning systems such as Adaptive
  • Experience working with global teams
  • PowerPoint at an expert level
  • Degree in finance, business, math, economics, or related field
  • Ability to travel internationally if needed
