Program Assistant

This is an exciting opportunity to join Bread Head's mission to empower people experiencing food and housing insecurity with food literacy, life skills, and positive relationships. With our intentional community, we hope to inspire personal growth, independence, and balanced living. Bread Head is located in Venice, CA, near Venice High School. 

The Program Assistant is an important member of our Bread Head team and will work under the supervision and direction of Bread Head's Program Manager. This position is responsible for assisting with Bread Head’s programmatic service operations. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with enthusiasm in community engagement and program operations.

Job Duties

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Programs (PAN, CHEW, Gaia's Gift)

• provide administrative support to program activities
• administer surveys, input data, & assist with program related evaluation reports.
• create branded programmatic fliers, pamphlets, certificates as directed
• gather information for social media & fundraising campaigns  

Volunteer Program

• Assist in volunteer onboarding.
• Set up & coordinate individual volunteer schedules. 
• Supervise volunteer activities & volunteer appreciation activities.
• Schedule & coordinate monthly volunteer opportunities for all Bread Head programs.
• Update Volunteer Management system, MailChimp & Signup Genius accordingly. 
• Data collection & reporting on volunteer activities, performance, retention, & community impact. 

Food Pantry

• load/unload delivery vehicles
• liaison with food banks & food donors, reporting as directed
• communicate with & provide direct service to food pantry recipients
• sort food items
• maintain & rotate stock
• maintain physical food pantry space 

Shipping & Receiving

• receive, log & shelve in-kind donations & orders
• maintain inventory related databases
• prepare & process outgoing shipments
• breakdown & discard shipping/packing containers 

Community programs & events

• assist in coordination & implementation as directed

• Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote and Outlook and cloud-based systems.

Experience:

• Nonprofit program assistance: 1 year (preferred)
• Experience working with issues of food literacy, food insecurity & food justice (preferred)
• Experience working with issues of housing insecurity (preferred)
• Experience working with youth and diverse groups.

Education:

• Bachelor's (preferred)

License:

• Driver's (Required)

Language:

• English (Required)
• Spanish (Preferred)

• Salary-$35,360 (full time, exempt)
• COVID-19: time split between on-site (for essential service facilitation) and remote work
