General Description

Clean Ocean Action (COA), a successful nonprofit regional coalition working to protect the marine waters of the NJ/NY coast, is seeking a creative and hard-working part-time Project Coordinator who possesses strong project management skills, enthusiasm for education and action, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. The Project Coordinator would be responsible for launching, organizing, and coordinating the SEAL Program.

 

About the SEAL Program

COA received funding from Impact 100 Jersey Coast to develop and implement our Student Environmental Advocates and Leaders (SEAL) program, where high school students will be empowered to become mindful and resourceful leaders. While collaborating with peers all over Monmouth County, SEAL students will identify and implement environmental projects and campaigns in their communities. To enhance understanding, SEALs will travel to impact-full locations (e.g. NJ state capital, landfill). The high school students will also make meaningful connections to their communities by involving middle schools and town councils in their projects.

Position Responsibilities

In consultation with the Executive Director:

  • Direct and implement all aspects of the program
  • Coordinate logistics (schedules, agendas, meetings, field trips, trainings, speakers, activities, permissions, supplies, food, and transportation)
  • Develop and consult with SEAL Advisory Board
  • Outreach to high school and middle school administrators and teachers and students
  • Track individual student tasks, activities, participation, reports, work outputs and outcomes, and over all successes and improvements needed
  • Oversee the development of two videos (short and long) documenting the program
  • Track expenses
  • Comply with all reporting requirements
  • Ensure program follows federal, state, and district safety requirements
  • Integrate COA program work into activities
  • Help develop and implement program sustainability for the SEAL program

Qualifications and Qualities

  • College degree required; Teaching certificate a plus
  • Youth education experience, curriculum development preferred
  • Experience with school administrators, teachers, and parent-teacher organizations a plus
  • Excellent MS Office skills in a PC environment
  • Use of Smartboard Technology preferred
  • Approval from NJ State Office of Student Protection must be current at time of hire
  • Creative thinker with skill and experience in social media, writing and editing, and project management
  • Result-oriented, organized, collaborative, professional, resourceful, flexible, efficient, friendly and outgoing, and highly responsible
  • Team player with desire to be part of grassroots initiatives
  • Environmentally-focused with a desire to protect and improve coastal waters
  • Familiar with COA programs and issues a plus
  • Reliable, working car required      

This position is part-time, with a year-round average of 24 hours per week and with flexible summer hours. This position requires evening and weekend work throughout the year.

About COA

Clean Ocean Action is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to protecting marine water quality in the New York Bight (those waters between Montauk Point, NY, and Cape May, NJ, and to the continental shelf). COA is a broad-based coalition of over 115 active boating, business, community, conservation, diving, environmental, fishing, religious, service, student, surfing, and women’s groups.
