The Morris Animal Refuge (MAR) is looking for an organized, creative people-person with a flexible schedule who wants to join a team of animal lovers to coordinate event programming and assist with fundraising. Event coordination and budgeting will be completely the responsibility of the Development Assistant with oversite from the Development Manager. Events range from happy hours, to all day adoption events, to puppy yoga sessions in the park. This full time position is supervised by the Development Manager and works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, Director of Operations, and Executive Director to ensure complete communication with partner groups, sufficient volunteer and staff coverage, and proper presentation during the event. Responsibilities include:

Event Preparation

o  Finding interested event sponsors and reaching out to MAR affiliates to pitch event ideas, build partnerships, and create fundraising opportunities.

o  Communicate with partner groups and ensure that event expectations are clear.

o  Create a plan for each event, including staffing/volunteers, arrival/pickup schedule, and animals to bring.

o  Carry out a marketing strategy for each event including print, social media, and email marketing.

Event Execution

o  Attend evening and weekend events, handling animals and making sure tables look clean, neat, and presentable.

o  Greet all event attendees, give accurate information regarding MAR and our programs, solicit donations, etc.

o  Lead by example with volunteers and other staff to ensure that MAR maintains a positive and professional appearance at each event.

o  Unpack, organize, and clean all materials used at an event, keeping them out of the general shelter space.

Development Support and Budgeting

o  Maintain an events budget of expenses and revenue.

o  Manage schedule of events to maximize program success.

o  Communicate events and needs with other staff.

o  Assist Development Manager in day to day activities, including payment processing, donor database upkeep, and donor relationship building.

o  Assist in other strategic projects as needed.

o  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Abilities

o  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar

o  Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van

o  Ability to maintain professionalism and outgoing demeanor

o  Organized, responsible, and ready to take ownership of our event programming

o  Customer service oriented with the ability to work with volunteers from all backgrounds

o  Must have a flexible schedule as event timing will change from week to week

o  Ability to lift 50 lbs

o  Creative, graphic design skills a plus
