ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Healing Justice is a small, dynamic, and rapidly growing national non-profit organization that uses restorative justice and justice reform to address the individual and collective harm caused by wrongful convictions. We serve all who have been directly harmed in these cases: crime victims, survivors, and their families, as well as the innocent who were wrongly convicted and their families. We also offer programs for others who have been affected by these cases: jurors, judges, police, prosecutors, victim advocates, and other justice and social service providers. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development will be responsible for significantly increasing Healing Justice’s income stream through a variety of fundraising activities, including securing gifts from more individual donors and grants from more foundations, corporations, and government agencies. The Director of Development will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with other key staff.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop short- and long-term fundraising plans. 
  • Significantly increase and diversify Healing Justice’s income stream through government and private grants, corporate gifts, online crowdfunding campaigns, individual gifts and bequests, capital campaigns, special events, legislative allocations, and more.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with major individual donors and key contacts at foundations, corporations, and government agencies. 
  • Expand individual donor lists, outreach, communications, and management, including through email and social media. 
  • Create national and local marketing and communications materials and strategies that support fundraising goals and expand organizational visibility, including through social media and other digital media activities. 
  • Regularly report on successes and challenges, and develop and implement solutions to obstacles.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Proven success raising significant funds for nonprofit organizations through a variety of means. 
  • Experience with nonprofit marketing and communications, including digital media. 


KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-directed, and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for Healing Justice’s mission, work, and clients. 
  • A professional and collaborative work ethic, a good sense of humor, and the ability to maintain grace under pressure.
  • Social media experience a significant plus. 


COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week). Salary dependent on experience and location. Generous vacation time, family friendly work environment, flexible work hours, 401(k) plan and health insurance.
