LPS Hayward Opportunity 


LPS is seeking the next visionary leader for our Hayward campus. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced leader to work with a high-performing team of innovative and collaborative educators who are deeply committed to supporting all students in becoming college and career ready community leaders. He or she will have the support of an Assistant Principal, two Academic Deans, a Student Services Coordinator and team of student support specialists, as well a team of College Counselors. A high school where 60% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch and 80% are first generation college students, LPS Hayward is far surpassing other similar schools in its student achievement, rigor and innovation of its academic program. 93% of LPS Hayward students complete all A-G courses. 90% are accepted to a four-year college and 30% are offered admission to a UC campus. The school has been awarded a “GOLD” designation in the Best High Schools rankings by US News and World Report and was recognized by Innovate Public Schools as one of the top performing Bay Area High Schools for low-income Latino students.

 

Primary Responsibilities:


Visionary Educational Leadership


  • Provide Instructional Leadership – Set the tone and culture of the school, lead staff to convey the highest of expectations for students, and hold the school accountable for student achievement. Use data to improve teaching and learning, coach teachers and administrators, support and monitor implementation of CCSS aligned curriculum and assessments, and focus the school community on effective teaching and learning.
  • Ensure Professional Support for all Staff - Provide differentiated professional development, coaching structures and a professional environment that supports staff in all roles and at all levels of experience.
  • Lead the Creation of Equitable Classrooms - Take the lead in examining grading, assessment, instruction and classroom management practices that disrupt patterns of inequity and that create inclusive environments.
  • Ensure College Readiness For All -- Support a strong, college-going culture and high expectations for all students. Oversee data-based academic, college counseling and intervention programs.
  • Accelerate Academic Outcomes -- Develop the capacity of teachers to use a variety of instructional strategies, including technology resources, to build missing foundational skills and accelerate movement to proficiency and beyond. Ensure effective implementation of instructional strategies that accelerate the achievement of underperforming students, English Learners, and special education students.
  • Develop Career Pathways -- Oversee the development career pathways grounded in community leadership that focus on technology, design, and educational careers.
  • Innovate Models of Teaching and Learning – Work closely with the wider network in developing powerful ways to reimagine education to empower students and build passion, purpose, and belonging.


Transformative School Culture


  • Positive School Environment -- Create a vibrant and positive school culture that supports student learning and deep relationships between students and staff. Develop the systems, relationships, and practices that support the safety and security of students and staff.
  • Inclusive Schools -- Support restorative justice practices, mindfulness approaches, and a community-responsive environment to deepen students’ sense of belonging. Develop the capacity of faculty and staff to implement trauma-sensitive practices and systems.


Operations and General Administration


  • General Administration, Management, and Leadership – Oversee the daily running of the school: addressing discipline/behavior issues with the Assistant Principal, supporting intervention and restorative justice programs, overseeing student support programs, scheduling, managing budgets, coordinating with the home office on strategic initiatives.
  • Effective Implementation - Ensure the structures and communication are in place to move ideas to implementation in an effective, timely way
  • Compliance Management - Ensure timely completion of compliance and accountability processes such as WASC, LCAP and other Network, State, and Federal mandates.
  • Talent Management - Recruit, build, sustain and manage a collaborative, high-achieving team of returning and new LPS teachers and staff members.
  • Community Relations – Build relationships with families, local institutions, businesses, School District, and schools.
  • Network Collaboration – Partner with the LPS network in defining and implementing the LPS educational vision, collaboration processes and initiatives.
  • Enrollment and Recruitment – Oversee and participate in outreach and enrollment activities and partnerships with a specific focus on increasing African American enrollment and the inclusion of Hayward’s growing newcomer population.
  • Facilities – work with the School Manager, Director of Operations & Director of Facilities to ensure a facility that meets the needs of the school and community.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal principal candidate will have:


  • Administrative Services credential required
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Strong sense of urgency in addressing the needs of our students and a relentless drive to attain results
  • School leadership experience with a track record of high levels of individual student growth
  • Minimum of three years experience teaching in an urban public district or charter school with demonstrated success in moving student achievement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including collaboration and a team orientation leads and inspires others and has demonstrated success in leading a cohesive, culturally-inclusive team
  • Effective problem solver and project manager with strong attention to effective implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to effect positive organizational change
  • Proficient in the use of technology with a vision for powerful use in the classroom
  • Ability to authentically connect with students, parents and the larger Hayward community as well as external partners and funders
  • Skills to thrive in a small school environment; able to generate enthusiasm and support among staff and community partners for the school’s mission and vision
  • Bilingual speaker of Spanish preferred (conversational Spanish strongly recommended)
