Boston Harbor Now is seeking a Youth Engagement Coordinator to join our growing team. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with a variety of partners to successfully engage local youth with their Boston Harbor Islands National and State Parks. They will coordinate, develop, implement and evaluate both facilitated school year and summer programming, as well as a variety of year-round youth employment and development programs. In the short-term, all programming will be facilitated remotely. In the mid-to-long-term, programs will transition from virtual to hybrid or in-person.

This position is a full-time, 40-hour/week position. The schedule varies depending on programming activities. Some weekend, overnight, early morning and evening work is required. 

Responsibilities  

  • Coordinate communication, organization and development of programs dedicated to increasing youth access to Harbor Islands, including development and promotion of self-guided and asynchronous opportunities
  • Plan, facilitate, evaluate and refine place-based and virtual learning experiences with Boston Public and Charter School students centered around Boston’s harbor and island resources
  • Communicate with teachers from Boston Public and Charter Schools to coordinate education programs focused on sites in and around the harbor
  • Communicate with YMCA, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, and Boys & Girls Club program leaders to coordinate summer Harbor Discovery Camps
  • Support Hill to Harbor Youth Conservation Corps, a summer youth employment and development program focused on engaging young people in a public engagement through facilitated island camp experiences and pop-up activities at a variety of sites in and around the harbor
  • Coordinate Boston Harbor Youth Leaders Coalition meetings with representatives from the National Parks of Boston, MA Department of Conservation & Recreation, Save the Harbor Save the Bay, New England Aquarium and other harbor-centered youth partners
  • Provide strategic alignment of community outreach and youth engagement initiatives, coordinating a targeted approach to engaging schools and youth-serving organizations across Boston’s neighborhoods


Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience required in place-based and virtual teaching, youth development programming, working in partnerships, and communications. 
  • Specific experience designing, coordinating and facilitating programs for diverse populations of Boston city youth ages 6-12 and high school employees ages 15-18.  
  • Must have abilities in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe design software. 
  • Preference given to a Boston local. Candidate must be based in the Greater Boston Area while working in this position. 
  • Long durations of standing, walking, and working outdoors required.
