Background:


Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) combines tennis and education to spark the potential of children living in and around Brooklyn public housing. Founded in 2010, KCTL currently provides free, year round, tennis and educational programs to over 200 students living in and around six Housing Developments. KCTL delivers programming directly to the community and renovates unused play areas to create safe spaces for children to learn and play tennis.


Position Overview:


As Executive Director you will be responsible for all operational aspects of the organization along with overseeing strategy, programming, fundraising and financial results. This position requires a deep understanding of youth development through sport, with the ideal candidate being an innovative thinker, problem solver and inspiring connector of multiple groups and stakeholders. Developing, and building new, community partnerships and relationships will be integral to the success of KCTL as we embark on our next phase of growth. 


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Lead development of the organizations short- and long-term strategy
  • Develop and refine a management system, organization culture and overall vision
  • Provide strategic input and leadership on key decisions affecting the organization
  • Develop and nurture relationships with community leaders, residents and partner organizations
  • Oversee year round tennis and education program (involving 100+ volunteers and seasonal staff) working with KCTL Program Managers to problem solve and think strategically to increase enrollment and improve operations
  • Develop and cultivate donors, in conjunction with Director of Development
  • Oversee grant applications and provide structured feedback to Communications Director
  • Oversee HR and Finance, including budgeting, reporting, payroll, benefits and compliance 
  • Engage, mentor and interact with members of staff (and volunteers) at all levels to foster growth and encourage team and individual development
  • Communicate effectively throughout the organization and with external stakeholders including NYCHA, Foundations, USTA, Fort Greene Tennis Association, corporate partners, City Council members, and Youth INC
  • Create, improve, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization that will improve operational and financial effectiveness of the organization





Desired Skill and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree and proficiency in Google Suite
  • 3-5 years in a for- or non-profit leadership role, preferably sports-based youth development organizations
  • Understanding of social-emotional learning as well as PYD (Positive Youth Development) practices
  • Passion for tennis with knowledge or prior experience preferred 
  • Experience with community building preferred 
  • Ability to recruit, train, develop and manage staff
  • Be highly motivated, possess vision and enthusiasm, drive positive results and make adjustments when needed 
  • Executive presence with outstanding problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of racial and socio-economic inequity facing BIPOC communities and the ability to articulate how the organization’s work centers around these issues
  • Connection to Brooklyn a plus
