Creative Learning @ FPC seeks an enthusiastic, child advocate to become a Teacher at the after school program. Serving elementary school students of Stamford Public Schools, we are a mission of outreach to working families of Stamford by The First Presbyterian Church. A passion for making a difference in the lives of children and their families is our driving force. Our teachers must have demonstrated successful experience working with students, and show evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and parents.
Compassion, flexibility, a good nature, maturity of judgment, dependability, and a strong sense of personal and moral integrity are required. The applicant should be fair, impartial and objective in the treatment of students and always show love and respect. They must be in good physical and emotional health and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the program’s educational and organizational policies as well as state regulations. Expertise in and love of the arts: visual art, music or drama would be ideal.
A High school diploma is required. A college degree is desirable but may be in progress. The applicant must also exhibit the classroom management skills of a Teacher. Experience working with children and parents in a diverse multicultural learning environment is essential. They must have strong English Literacy, and language skills plus the ability to assist with elementary school academics. They must be able to escort children down 4 stairs safely. They must be able to visually supervise playground activities and must be able to hear any cause for alarm. Prior to the opening of the program, a certificate from their physician indicating good health must be submitted. Computer literacy is needed. Training in first aid and CPR will be helpful. Ability to speak Spanish would be useful. Fingerprinting and a background check are required. Proof of Covid 19 vaccination is required.
The Creative Learning @ FPC Afterschool Program follows the Stamford Public Schools’ calendar.
The program operates from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM on early release days. The Teacher is required to be onsite during these hours of operation.
