Full-Time Bilingual Casework Position

 DISASTER CASE MANAGER, HURRICANE EVACUEE SERVICES


NYDIS is a 501(c)(3) faith-based federation of faith communities, human services providers and charitable organizations who work in partnership to provide disaster readiness, response, and recovery services to New York City. Our mission is to inspire, connect, and provide resources for New York City faith communities serving in disaster to create an urban environment for social justice for all.

 

NYDIS is seeking a full-time Disaster Case Manager (DCM). DCM will be based at the NYDIS offices near Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan. DCM will be responsible for helping evacuees of the 2017 Hurricanes in Puerto Rico (PR) and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) in accessing disaster recovery resources, including the Unmet Needs Roundtable. The DCM will report to the DCM Supervisor. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.


Duties include:

  • Conduct detailed needs assessments for evacuees from PR and USVI displaced in NYC

·        Assist clients in developing a recovery plan that meets their individual long-term recovery goals

  • Connect clients to existing nonprofit and government services for resources and referrals

·        Submit cases to the Unmet Needs Roundtable for both emergency assistance and sustainable recovery needs

·        Maintain and track an active caseload of around 35 households

·        Input client information and resource referrals into the Coordinated Assistance Network (CAN) system

  • Assist in identifying gaps in service and emerging trends in unmet needs
  • Learn and remain knowledgeable about constantly changing recovery resources


Qualifications include:

  • Possess a client-centric approach to case management and disaster recovery work
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - in person, in writing, and on the phone
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Positive energy and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff
  • Computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, databases and internet


Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken, is required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience in case management, benefits coordination, or general casework
  • A narcotics drug test and federal level background check must be completed prior to hire date


Salary is $40,000-$45,000, commensurate with experience, with excellent benefits
