Areas of Responsibility

Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) seeks an energetic, proactive, enthusiastic and highly talented candidate for the newly-created position of Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A). This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer and, together with BNYDC’s Controller and colleagues in the Finance Department, will work closely with BNYDC’s management to determine and achieve the strategic goals of the organization. S/he will be a key member of the team responsible for developing, implementing and directing effective budget, forecasting and financial planning processes, performing high quality financial analyses and making related actionable recommendations, modeling BNYDC’s existing and planned real estate projects, and communicating financial information and insights to the CFO and senior leadership. This is an opportunity to create a key planning function from scratch and grow with BNYDC as it embarks on its next important stage of development and expansion.

  • Support the development of the financial planning and analysis infrastructure for BNYDC
  • Partner with business stakeholders and Finance management to improve and execute BNYDC’s annual operating and capital budget processes and quarterly updates, and prepare regular and ad hoc budget reports and variance analyses for senior management
  • Support and participate in the development and tracking of BNYDC’s long-range financial plans; work with other departments to prepare and track annual business plans
  • Model (in Excel and/or Argus) BNYDC’s existing real estate assets, and prepare development models for prospective deals
  • Evaluate and enhance recurring and ad hoc financial analyses and reports to support the ongoing management of BNYDC’s financial health and facilitate long-and short- range planning
  • Proactively and independently work with business and departmental stakeholders to ensure and improve financial outcomes and, in particular, provide budgetary and analytical support to optimize the deployment of resources
  • Project and track sources and uses of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Support year-end review processes to manage reserve balances

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong financial planning, forecasting, modeling and problem-solving skills
  • Mastery of Excel/pivot tables is required; Argus knowledge a plus
  • Experience modeling complicated real estate transactions a plus
  • Familiarity with NPV and IRR calculations
  • Knowledge of Yardi or similar real estate financial software a plus
  • Experience with business intelligence reporting tools and/or Tableau a plus
  • High degree of personal and professional integrity; ability to use discretion and good judgment in handling confidential information


  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance; MBA or other Finance or related graduate degree a plus
  • 2-3 years’ experience in financial management, resource planning, financial analysis and/or budget development
  • Knowledge of NY City capital budget process a plus
