SUMMARY 

STRIVE NYC seeks a Career Skills Instructor (CSI) to facilitate training, assist with instructional design, and deliver meaningful learning experiences for students across the continuum of the Career Path Program. The Career Path Program offers occupational skills training, career coaching, job placement assistance, and lifetime services. The CSI will also support the Career Path Team with administrative and operational duties to ensure smooth and seamless operations and training instruction. 

This job will be remote for a portion of 2021, with a return to the East Harlem office when it reopens.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  •  Deliver job readiness training workshops to guide students through an intensive and transformational journey following STRIVE’s signature course syllabus. 
  • Assist the Director of Training with facilitating various modules in STRIVE’s Career Path Program, which includes motivational sessions, attitudinal training, goal setting, orientation to workplace expectations, conflict resolution, sexual harassment, and communication skills.
  • Support agency goals for digital literacy and learning through utilization of the iSTRIVE learning management system and instruction. 
  • Foster a safe learning community that supports the various backgrounds, needs, and learning styles of STRIVE students, and promotes participation. 
  • Create and utilize instructional techniques and media, including lectures, role play, simulations, group exercises, and discussions, videos, handouts, etc. to enhance instruction and meet students’ various learning styles.

Performance Management and Administrative Supports 

  • Prepare and complete data entry as required, including attendance and case notes.
  •  Maintain accurate records of student's contact and progress into our performance management system (Apricot).

Internal Coordination and Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure successful selection and referral of students. 
  •  Participate in intake and assessment processes as required, including panel interviews.
  •  Lead monthly/quarterly Career Path Orientations in partnership with staff. 
  • Participate in weekly/bi-weekly case conferences with the Career Path Team to share program and student updates and develop strategies, interventions, and training innovations.
  •  Assist the Director of Training with facilitating various modules in STRIVE’s Career Path Program, which includes motivational sessions, attitudinal training, goal setting, orientation to workplace expectations, conflict resolution, harassment training, and communication skills.
  •  Partner with the Business Development Team to present workshops during “Jump Start” to prepare students for job search. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills.
  • Microsoft Office experience including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with resume creation, interviewing techniques, facilitation, and classroom management.
  • Ability to teach virtually and in person. 
  • Must be flexible and able to assess student needs and maintain calm and reason during stressful situations.
  • Model professionalism to students by dressing appropriately and always starting on time.
  • Convey relevant information about the program to students, funders, visitors, and STRIVE staff.
  • Comfort in diverse business, corporate, and community settings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Keen attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Knowledge of the local labor market and employer requirements. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in job readiness or workforce development required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) a plus.
