Winsor Music is firmly convinced that the arts, and specifically music, create a multi-faceted bond within a community and beyond. Our goal is to be a positive force in our community through performing vibrant chamber music concerts that focus on diverse compositional and musical voices, by commissioning new works by primarily women and people of color, and engaging audiences through thoughtful outreach programs. For 25 years Winsor Music's highly-acclaimed concert series has featured unique, engaging programming in the Boston area and beyond. Winsor Music's core ensemble attracts some of the world's biggest talents - most recently Simone Dinnerstein, Andres and Roberto Díaz and Claire Chase. Winsor Music is a long-time partner with Project STEP, offering mentorship opportunities and scholarships to kids of color to attend music camp. This past year Winsor Music was a part of the core team leading Boston Hope Music which provided "doses" of music to patients recovering from COVID-19, offered music lessons to doctors and nurses, and provided music at Boston area vaccination sites.

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Winsor Music. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The Executive Director contributes to a culture of collaboration, community, and respect and is committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in all areas of their work. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors and will work alongside Winsor's two Co-Artistic Directors.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The following represents the general areas of responsibility under the Executive Director’s purview, in addition to which other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

1) Development: Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support Winsor Music’s mission. Cultivate donor relationships and development of new donors. Facilitate grant applications.

2) Operations and Administration:  

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Winsor Music, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and routine financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Develop and implement employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for the hiring, development, and retention of competent, qualified staff and/or volunteers.
  • Serve as Winsor Music’s Administration officer, including the tracking of donors and stakeholders, managing the organization’s website, drafting reports, managing donations, facilitating communications (mail, telephone, email), maintaining all Winsor Music digital storage accounts, conducting banking and financial transactions, and acting as Salesforce administrator.

3) Marketing and Stakeholder Relations: Serve as one of Winsor Music’s primary spokespersons to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.

4) Event Coordination: Serve as Winsor Music’s principal coordinator for all musical performances. 

5) Board Governance:  Work with Winsor Music’s Board of Directors in order to fulfill the organization’s mission. Serve as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Board of Directors. Actively assist in board development. 

Qualifications:

  • Love of live music and belief in its ability to create community.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Nonprofit management experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a culture of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results. Success in grant writing is a plus.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
