APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 18th, 2021.

ABOUT CAE: The Center for Anti-violence Education (CAE) works to prevent, disrupt and help heal hate violence in our communities through educational programs that center the experiences of the people most marginalized. CAE is a NYC-wide multi-cultural, anti-racist, intersectional-feminist organization with our pre-pandemic home in Brooklyn.

CAE teaches Empowerment Self-Defense and Upstander tools, focusing our work with girls and women (cis and trans), people who are transgender, gender non-conforming and people who are LGBQ+, particularly those at increased risk from racism and xenophobia. Through partnerships with CBOs, schools, workplaces, neighborhood groups, and more, we serve more than 3,000 people each year across the five boroughs. We have been doing this work to actively create a more peaceful and just world since our founding in 1974.

POSITION: The Center for Anti-violence Education (CAE) seeks to hire two energetic, social justice minded and experienced empowerment self-defense instructors (part time position). Hours worked per month will vary, and approximately range from 15-36 hrs. monthly. Instructors will teach Empowerment Self-Defense workshops to a diversity of groups throughout NYC and the variation in hours worked will depend on the requests CAE receives for these workshops. Please note that we are seeking trainers with schedule flexibilities. The current openings may not be a best fit for people who are full time employees with traditional hours looking for part time work on the side, or people who are seeking interim work while trying to find full-time employment. While becoming a CAE instructor can be demanding emotionally and physically, it is also deeply rewarding for those who strive to bring positive change for people who have experienced violence.

CAE is committed to having our instructors reflect the communities we serve. We strongly encourage BIPOC, (cis and trans) women, bilingual, T/GNC (trans/gender non-conforming), and LGBQ people to apply.

Candidates will only be considered if available for CAE training and onboarding at the end of July and August 2021

LOCATION: We anticipate that most of our training work will remain virtual for 2021. However we will be offering in-person NYC based requests on a case-by-case basis starting fall 2021. We are looking for NYC trainers/instructors who are available to teach in-person training across the five boroughs of NYC.
