Reports to: Vice President, External Relations and Philanthropy

This position serves as the agency lead on securing grant-based support from government, foundations, and corporations, for both unrestricted operating support and restricted projects. As a Director of Foundation and Government Philanthropy, this position will maintain and grow Ignite’s current relationships with and support from institutional funders, as well as to identify and develop new sources of support. 

This role manages one person, Manager of Foundation and Government Philanthropy, and works closely with internal staff across departments.

·      Research, write, and edit materials for support including letters of intent/inquiry, proposals, program narratives, objectives, budgets, and impact reports.

·      Develop and manage relationships with funders, including developing a personal rapport, doing periodic check-ins, leading site visits, and sending timely, personal correspondence.

·      Oversee a Manager of Foundation and Government Philanthropy. This includes ensuring that they: meet their fundraising targets, represent Ignite in a polished and professional manner, and meet all deadlines.

·      Maintain a centralized calendar of due dates; research and ensure timely submission of all required materials.

·      Research, identify, and develop new sources of funding.

·      Collaborate extensively with internal staff, including: working with program team on identifying internal needs, developing narratives, and reporting impact; working with data and finance to create accurate reports; working with finance to develop grant budgets and budget amendments, and working with communications on any appropriate publicizing needs.

·      Write and edit written recognition and acknowledgement materials, contribute to general team stewardship efforts, and provide guidance on gift documentation and processing, as needed.

·      Keep up to date of grant contract rules, regulations and requirements by regularly accessing all pertinent resources, (e.g., written, webinars, trainings, symposiums, etc.);

·      Assist with developing policies and procedures for program compliance for all grant awards, being sure to keep abreast of new and existing program requirements, and related policies and procedures. 

As a member of the External Relations and Philanthropy team, this position is expected to contribute to all department activities and to provide ongoing leadership, guidance, and support to achieve project, team, and agency goals.

Core Qualifications

·      Significant experience writing, securing, and reporting on government grants

·      Experience writing, securing, and reporting on foundation grants

·      Experience managing the relationships associated with the grants

·      Experience reporting metrics and outcomes

·      Outstanding written and interpersonal communications

·      Ability to prioritize, project manage, and consistently meet deadlines

·      Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with excellent organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and a sense of humor

·      Ability to work both independently and in team settings

·      Commitment to Ignite’s mission, specifically, and social justice, in general

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 5 years’ comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting

·      Experience writing, securing, and reporting on corporate grants

·      Previous supervisory experience
