Overview:

Cayuga Centers is seeking a dynamic leader to drive and sustain change, champion best practices and lead teams that support more than 100 families in our ACS program. Seeking a dynamic leader and change agent to lead its New York City based TFFC program as its Assistant Vice President for TFFC. The incumbent will help to see that more than 100 families care safely for their children, while addressing underlying conditions that can lead to child abuse or neglect, such as parental depression, family stress, substance use or domestic violence.

Leadership & Vision

  • Upholds the agency’s mission to ensure that each child and youth has a strong foundation for life: a safe, loving, permanent family and the opportunity and preparation to thrive in the world.
  • Articulates a vision and a clear plan of action towards that vision; setting and driving clear priorities.
  • Drives and sustains change; champions best practices adopted by ACS and Cayuga Centers
  • Provides excellent program leadership through creating and maintaining a supportive working and learning environment
  • Represents the agency in externally, including meetings and other forums with government and private funders
  • Models and promotes dependable, responsible, professional and accountable behavior; promotes positive program norms and teamwork; supports program mission and philosophy.
  • Confronts and discourages negative behavior, attitudes and program norms; models enthusiasm and participation helps define issues, extract and validate information, finds "solutions" when alternatives, information and objectives are ambiguous, decides the best uses of time and other scarce organizational resources.


Work with Children, Youth & Birth Families:

  • Ensures that the organization’s casework practice approach is used to partner with families to help lead to strength based change to promote the safety and well-being of their children.
  • Effectively supervises the Program Directors to ensure that the programs are effectively managed towards long-term positive outcomes for families including: Maintain a consistently urgent focus on safety and risk, including regular supervision of Case Planning Supervisors to advance practice and strengthen supervisors ‘capacity to supervise their staff.
  • Ensures that supportive and rehabilitative services are provided to families to avert disruptions that could result in foster care placement; enable a child in care to reunite with their family at an earlier time or prevent re-entry of a child into foster care.
  • Ensures that case management staff, in full partnership with families, co-create and implement Family Action Plans that are inclusive of stakeholders’ input; strengths-based; realistic, effective, provide meaningful assistance, and are in accordance with City, State and Federal Regulations and mandates.

Staff Recruitment & Development:

  • Works closely with Human Resources to recruit, develop and train and support a diverse, talented and committed work force; ensures that the hiring process is anticipatory, efficient and provides an unbroken continuum of services to families.
  • Is approachable, accessible and able to build trust with staff to support their growth and development.
  • Commit to coaching and teaching, helping others to be their best, and to Cayuga's policy on the use of progressive coaching.
  • Evaluates staff performance, accurately assessing the strengths and developmental needs of team members. Plays an active role in staff’s development and growth while simultaneously holding staff accountable to strong performance outcomes. Rewards achievement and acknowledges strong work.

Management & Organization:

  • identifies strengths and concerns within the program and identify and implement strategies to coach and support the programs’ effectiveness.
  • Working collaboratively with Program Performance and Planning, drives the implementation of practices, policies and procedures consistent with Cayuga's Program Plan for Performance Excellence.
  • Provides formal and informal supportive, programmatic and clinical supervision to supervisors/directors; holds formal individual supervision at least bi-weekly (or more often when warranted/directed) and team meetings on a monthly basis.
  • Assures the achievement and maintenance of hospitable and welcoming environments where staff interacts respectfully with families and which embraces diversity and difference, and promotes learning and growth.
  • Able to consistently ensure accountability for quality practice and results, without compromising the dignity of others.
  • Responds to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours. Provides back-up on call coverage as needed.
  • Assists in preparation for audits and accreditation; Ensures appropriate record keeping

Community Partnerships:

  • Knowledgeable about systems inter-related with child welfare, i.e. case planning / acs mandates, connections, child and adult mental health, substance abuse, juvenile justice, criminal justice, housing, etc.
  • Demonstrates willingness and the ability to invite a diverse set of stakeholders into the creative decision-making process, facilitates effectively, and shares widely the rationale for key decisions.
  • collaborate effectively with internal and external entities to ensure that our families and staff have access to high-quality programs and resources that meet their needs
  • Programs according to New York State, New York City Administration for Children Services mandates

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field required
  • Five (5) or more years of managerial experience in a child welfare setting.
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the Administration for Children’s Services’ Preventive Standards and Policies, as well as CONNECTIONS data systems.
  • Ability to build a team and function in a team setting.
  • Skill and experience working with foster families and youth in foster care
  • Has and can teach excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong coordination, time management and organizational skills.
