Are you an experienced school leader looking for an opportunity to empower the next generation of leaders for a young and rapidly developing country in East Africa?

The Abaarso School of Science & Technology (Abaarso School) is the flagship institution of the Abaarso Network, a system of educational institutions dedicated to educating and empowering a new generation of leaders for Somaliland, East Africa. Established in 2009, the Abaarso School delivers an American-style curriculum to around 280 students across grades 7 – 12. Students reside on campus for the duration of their studies, and a significant proportion of them matriculate to some of the world’s best-regarded universities.

The Abaarso Network is seeking a Head of School for the Abaarso School. This is a unique opportunity to lead an extremely ambitious institution within a dynamic, fast-growing, and mission-driven network. Reporting both to a local board and the Abaarso Network’s Executive Director, the Head of School is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the Abaarso School. Working closely with the leaders of its sister institutions, Barwaaqo University and Kaabe Schools, the Head of School forms an integral part of the leadership team for the entire Abaarso Network.

The appointed candidate will be an outstanding and committed educational leader with the ability to truly inspire the students, faculty, and staff which comprise the Abaarso School community. They will be a dynamic instructional leader with a passion for coaching and developing faculty. Given Abaarso’s unique context, they will be highly adaptable and able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. As the face of Abaarso School to its vast range of stakeholders, including the most senior government officials, they will be an engaging communicator with a reputation for professional integrity. Experience in a low-resource setting and time spent in Africa would both be considered beneficial.

The deadline for receipt of applications is midday (EST) on Friday, 1 October 2021.

Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview in mid-October 2021.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in early November 2021.
