Position Description:

Facing History and Ourselves is seeking a Program Designer to join our Online Learning team. This position will provide support in creating and delivering high-quality synchronous and asynchronous professional learning experiences for educators.


Who You Are: You are curious and interested in learning about and helping to create engaging online professional learning experiences for educators that will make an impact on their classrooms and schools. When you work on a project, your teammates describe you as helpful, collaborative, and flexible. You understand the professional learning needs of both teachers and administrators. You are interested in developing and growing your skills to ensure educators have excellent experiences ranging from engaging with the Facing History On-Demand Learning Center to participating in an online course. You are comfortable jumping in and learning, and asking questions of your peers and supervisor. You have a good sense of humor and enjoy a collaborative, fun, and hard-working team.


Who We Are: We are a passionate, curious, and innovative Online Learning team who partners closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and digital content creators across the organization. Our team develops and delivers a wide-range of professional learning offerings for educators in the United States and around the globe including live webinars and self-paced workshops.

We are part of the Program Delivery and Content Development arm of the organization and use the principles of antiracist education, adult learning, and universal design as the foundation of our work. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Director of Online Learning and Online Learning team members in working with a cross-functional team to ensure high-quality webinars and other professional learning opportunities are being planned and delivered.
  • Manage and complete project plans for the development of assets and webinars, taking responsibility for project scheduling and communication.
  • Collaborate with SMEs or independently to assess professional learning needs of educators and plan outcomes-based webinars and “bite-sized” professional learning experiences that align with best practices in antiracist education and the Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Operations team to produce professional learning webinars from planning to completion.
  • Support the registration process and educator communications for online offerings. 
  • Develop and oversee a coherent and consistent calendar of webinar offerings (e.g., speakers, topics, themes). 
  • Facilitate the event language development/approval process for webinars in collaboration with the Marketing team. 
  • Prepare and support facilitators with how to plan, design, and develop professional learning offerings with a focus on webinars.
  • Identify, select, coach, and support facilitators in preparation for professional learning offerings and webinar facilitation (e.g., first-time webinar facilitators, selecting facilitators with connections to materials and speakers, planning and designing). 
  • Prepare any multimedia assets, slideshows, images, videos used during the webinar.
  • If a guest speaker is involved with a webinar, manage speaker fee, payment, and contract.
  • Review and analyze survey data to continually improve the learning experience in webinars and on-demand offerings.
  • Coordinate the gathering of preferences from educators and landscape analysis to ensure webinar and on-demand offerings are meeting the needs of educators.
  • Help to recruit SMEs and panelists as needed for the creation and/or delivery of assets and webinars.
  • Collaborate with Digital Operations team on technical aspects of webinars and other learning experiences.
  • Track project work and tasks and keep team members and stakeholders up-to-date on projects.
  • Identify obstacles to project completion and communicate proactively with supervisor.
  • Use Slack to collaborate within and across teams.
  • As a member of the Online Learning team, integrate the vision and strategy of online learning into larger organization goals.
  • Stay current on the latest issues, technology and methods of online learning. Assist the Online Learning team in bringing pedagogy into practice by exploring new ways of modeling Facing History in on-demand, online formats.
  • Participate in, and help coordinate, regular Online Learning team meetings; quarterly and yearly retreats.
  • Participate in peer review and other collaborative review processes to support high-quality online learning content.


Key Qualifications/Qualities

  • 2–3 years of experience supporting online learning experiences including webinars.
  • BA/BS or relevant work/internship experience.
  • Experience with Zoom and/or On24 platforms.
  • Experience producing multimedia eLearning content including presentations, videos, screencasts, etc.
  • Experience with competency-based professional learning and badging/micro-credentialing.
  • Experience with whole-school and district-wide online professional learning for teachers and administrators.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Very detail-oriented.
  • Analytical thinker and problem-solver.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current on latest research and trends in online learning.
  • Exceptional organization skills and the ability to independently manage all stages of a project. 
  • Flexible nature and experience in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and communicate challenges. 
  • Interest in, and ability to articulate the mission of Facing History and Ourselves.
