Executive Director

Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco


The Position


The CCC is looking for an Executive Director to continue its recent string of breakthrough successes and shepherd the organization through a transition to a new phase.  The successful candidate will be responsible for:


  • Leading the organization’s engagement strategy to build a “Museum without Walls”, and supporting the strong curatorial vision of the artistic director of the mission driven organization
  • Hiring, supervising, supporting, mentoring, and motivating the staff
  • Acting as the voice of CCC to all external organizations including press, community partners, elected officials, and others
  • Spearheading fundraising efforts with both public and private entities
  • Actively managing communication and cooperation with other organizations in the community
  • Working with the Board of Directors to communicate day-to-day affairs and develop the organization’s strategic vision and long-term plan, while encouraging participation and recruiting board members
  • Managing the relationship with Justice Investors/the Hilton Hotel


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven track record growing revenue for a nonprofit, for-profit, or political campaign
  • Experience leading public relations efforts
  • 5+ years managing a staff as Executive Director or similar leadership role
  • Experience with financial and budget planning
  • Proven ability to manage a fund raising or sales process
  • Extremely comfortable with public speaking

About CCC


The Chinese Culture Center (CCC), under the aegis of the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco, is a multidisciplinary arts organization and cultural community builder that provides a safe and nurturing space for the arts, and advances a plurality of Chinese diasporic voices.  CCC is dedicated to elevating underserved communities and giving a voice to equality through education and contemporary art.


Founded in 1965, the Chinese Culture Foundation opened its primary program site in Chinatown - as the Chinese Culture Center - in 1973. Recently, the work has expanded to San Francisco’s open and public spaces and other art institutions.  In 2014 CCC opened 41 Ross, an experimental community art space located in one of the most historic alleyways in Chinatown.


CCC has five decades of experience leading complex public art projects and events in the community.  In the past two years the CCC has been rewarded for its efforts with grants from the following institutions:

Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong network in the Chinatown community, San Francisco government, and/or international contemporary art world
  • Proven track record as Executive Director of a successful nonprofit
  • Exemplary leadership skills as a strategic thinker of an impactful organization
  • 2+ years as the primary report to a nonprofit Board of Directors, or experience in leadership of a nonprofit board
  • Experience with real-estate law
  • Past experience developing facilities for a business entity
