The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) is the region’s leading ensemble-based music education program for students ages 4-18. With the mission “music for young people; achievement for life!” DCYOP has fostered musical development and changed the lives of 50,000+ youth since 1960.
DCYOP students learn and grow through group lessons, sectionals, and ensemble rehearsals. For the duration of the COVID pandemic, DCYOP has been operating remotely and programming is conducted virtually. DCYOP’s artistic excellence has been recognized at local, national, and international levels. Achievements include the first youth orchestra to perform at the Kennedy Center, tours of 23 countries, played for U.S. presidents and diplomats and performed with esteemed musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Gustavo Dudamel. Honors include the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (known as the Coming Up Taller awards) and the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education.
The Social Media & Community Engagement Manager will join a passionate team in an exciting period of capacity building and expansion. In the next five years, DCYOP will become a national thought leader by using music as a tool to educate and empower children from all communities. The Social Media & Community Engagement Manager will play a key role in this expansion by cultivating and growing relationships with DCYOP’s community partners and leading the Social Media activities of the organization.
· Create and build a strong online presence for the organization to drive awareness, increase engagement, and grow enrollment
· Cross-functionally develop social media plans for all key company projects, products, launches, and initiatives
· Monitor and research industry developments, creative trends, and culturally relevant moments to push forward our social media efforts
· Manage DCYOP’s website and YouTube channel
· Create & capture all creative content and materials
· Support the creation of national thought leadership materials including podcasts, articles, lectures, etc.
· In collaboration with DCYOP leadership, create and implement a rolling 18-month institutional marketing calendar
· Collaborate with the Development team and PR consultant to leverage media for patron and sponsor cultivation
· Maintain media contact database and track engagement with DCYOP; work in partnership with DCYOP PR consultant to secure media coverage
· Grow peer-to-peer network with DC Schools and community networks
· Build social capital with schools and community partners
· Engage DCYOP parents and families by serving as the team liaison to DCYOP parent group
· Lead and implement recruitment efforts to increase enrollment
· Collect feedback from stakeholder through surveys and focus groups to maintain and improve satisfaction levels
· Prepare annual social media budget
· Perform other duties as assigned
· Work week during Fall and Spring is Tuesday- Saturday; Work week during Summer is Monday- Friday
· Enthusiasm for DCYOP’s mission and programs, arts education, and serving diverse communities
· Energized by building interpersonal relationships with DCYOP stakeholders, capable of serving as an effective ambassador of DCYOP
· Commitment to working in and creating an inclusive and equitable organization
· Positive attitude and sense of humor
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Mac OS
· Experience with social media scheduling software
· 2 years of relevant work experience

The position will have a starting annual salary of $52,000. DCYOP offers employer-paid health coverage; cell phone reimbursement; short and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; and a generous paid-time-off policy with up to three weeks of vacation. One time allowance for home office setup. Also, all employees have a company-wide vacation over the winter holidays.
