Your role

As ASI RSPO Assessor, you will report directly to the ASI RSPO Program Manager. The Assessor is responsible for planning, performing and following-up on ASI assessments to applicant and accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) in relation to RSPO certifications conducted in accordance with the requirements of the RSPO accreditation program.

Assessors play an essential role in ensuring the robustness and credibility of the RSPO program by evaluating conformance of CABs. The position provides an opportunity for intellectually challenging and stimulating work on a variety of global sustainability topics in the forest products sector.

Your core responsibility will be to carry out assessments in several ways; these involve undertaking audits of CABs against RSPO P&C and SCC requirements by onsite inspections of CABs' records, systems and documents by desk review, by witnessing RSPO audits, conducting compliance assessments at Certificate Holder level and by monitoring traceability.

The main tasks are:

  • Planning and performing accreditation and surveillance assessments, primarily in the region where the assessor will be based (Indonesia) and occasionally Asia;
  • Preparing assessment reports and following up on nonconformities according to accreditation standards and ASI procedures;
  • Communicating internally with the RSPO Program Manager;
  • Commenting on internal policy and procedure development processes, as necessary;
  • Providing technical support on incidents, complaints and appeals.

What you bring 

Our ideal candidate brings a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience:

  •  Knowledge: Expert knowledge in palm oil management, accreditation and/or certification (auditing) is essential. Additional experience in relation to HCV-HCS, NPP, ISH, FPIC, human rights, labor and global palm oil products supply chains is an asset;
  • Language skills: 

o   Oral and written English proficiency is necessary 

o   Oral and written Bahasa is desirable

  • Organisational skills: Excellent personal organisational and work planning skills, demonstrating high productivity and ability to manage competing work priorities; high personal and work ethics. Proven ability to plan and organize work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Dealing effectively with difficult communications and remaining professional when negative feedback, complaints and/or conflicts of interest occur;
  • Auditing and Analytical Skills: Application of quality-related methods and techniques including quality management tools, social responsibility and environmental management methods and techniques. Well-developed analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, demonstrating sound reasoning abilities and logical decision-making. Ability to make impartial decisions in all circumstances;
  • Computer skills: use of standard MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Teams, Skype and Google applications. Proficient and competent use of electronic information systems and databases; 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or tertiary education in related disciplines such as Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Biology, Forestry, Social Sciences or other related degree;
  • Professional Experience: At least five (5) years of field experience in the palm oil sector, health and safety, or environmental management. These include experience in HCV and HCS assessments, social auditing or involvement in human rights activities;
  • Successfully completed an RSPO endorsed P&C lead auditor course;
  • Successfully completed the 5-day lead auditor course for ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 or ISO 45001;
  • Demonstrable understanding of the latest version of RSPO Certification Systems;
  • Motivations: Have the desire to improve natural resources management practices globally.
