The Associate Director (AD) will support a large program of work focused on introducing innovative diagnostic products across sub-Saharan Africa. The AD will support the program directors to plan for and drive the project activities forward and manage the overall program operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding project and relationship management skills, cross-matrix experience, and strong communication skills. The candidate must be able to function independently and flexibly and have a strong commitment to excellence. Responsibilities:

  • Manage all operational aspects of a large donor-funded grant, which includes managing and resolving operational issues and executing operational activities to ensure the project runs smoothly and successfully achieves its goals and targets
  • Develop, establish, modify and clarify processes, procedures and SOPs, as needed, to support project activities and ensure compliance with grant contract and CHAI policy
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with the program directors and other technical across other global and country teams within CHAI
  • Serve as a primary interface on a regular basis with the donor team and other key donor stakeholders, ensuring the strong relationship is further developed
  • Undertake proven project management strategies and approaches to maximize the performance and delivery effectiveness of the team
  • Develop and utilize project management tools that effectively track the team's work and deliverables
  • Oversee the commodity procurement activities, including tracking and reporting, with the assistance of the Senior Associate
  • Take lead on grant budgeting and financial oversight in collaboration with the Finance Manager and the program directors
  • Manage the production of grant deliverables globally and across countries, including donor reports and presentations for external meetings and conferences
  • Manage the semi-annual donor reporting process and respond to ad-hoc information requests from donors
  • In partnership with the Global Contracts team and AP, develop and manage contracts with consultants/subcontractors and partners, including coordination of follow-up, reporting, invoicing, and payment
  • Organize and host high-level calls with partner organizations and lead the core team responsible for planning project meetings
  • Maintain organized and complete online project documentation and files with support from the Program Operations Associate
  • Perform other responsibilities, as requested by supervisor and program directors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 10 years of work experience
  • Work history successfully managing large complex projects
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations and work in a fast-paced, limited-structure, multicultural environment
  • A high level of diplomacy and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior management and external partners
  • Ability to coordinate the production of high quality deliverables either directly (for project management deliverables) or through project management of other team members
  • High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Familiarity with project financial management and budgeting
  • Familiarity with global health issues
  • Flexibility to travel within the US and internationally (up to 25-40% of time)
