OVERVIEW

Valor Collegiate Academies is seeking a Powered by Compass Coach for Principals who will support the sharing and learning work of the Powered by Compass team. The Leadership Coach will work closely with the Powered by Compass team in supporting our two offerings: Compass Camp and Compass-in-Leadership. These two training programs are designed to support leaders in education on their journey toward building relationship-based schools and leadership.

About Compass Camp 

Valor believes that it is developing a groundbreaking school model that has the potential to influence how we think about the purpose, design, and implementation of excellent and equitable schools. Over the next few decades, Valor Compass, a human development model for children and adults, has the potential to permeate thousands of schools to foster stronger and more equitable outcomes for millions of children. Compass Camp is a credentialing program for partner schools to adopt the Valor Compass model into their own communities. So far, 52 schools across the country have adopted the Compass model, impacting more than 18,000 students nationwide. 

About Compass-in-Leadership

Compass-in-Leadership is our latest program offering for school leaders. The Compass-in-Leadership program was designed to help school leaders develop as whole humans. At Valor, we believe that we can only develop whole children if we develop ourselves holistically – in our Compass-in-Leadership program we help leaders make transformative shifts in their way of being so they can return to their roles and communities recharged and more effective than ever.

The Leadership Coach will be responsible for the ongoing coaching, support, and development of our Powered by Compass partners that are engaging in one of the two programs. We are particularly interested in candidates that would be excited about extending our current sharing efforts to include more traditional district partner schools. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Compass Camp 

  • Maintains a coaching load of 5-10 Compass Camp partner schools to support leaders in the implementation of Compass Circles through
  • Bi-weekly coaching calls 
  • Data review and analysis
  • On-site visits  
  • Facilitate and lead Compass Camp professional development sessions (approximately 3 days, 1x/month) 
  • Create training content materials. 
  • Supporting the integration of traditional district leaders into our cohorts.

Compass-in-Leadership 

  • Facilitate and lead Compass-in-Leadership professional development sessions (approximately 3 days, 1x/month) 
  • Supporting 3 cohorts / year through a 2-year cohort experience 
  • Create training content materials 
  • Organize and plan for peer-led meetings between training sessions 
  • Support the CiL initiative to recruit and support more traditional district leaders by supporting the Director of Strategic Partnerships with recruitment efforts. 
  • Supporting the integration of traditional district leaders into our cohorts. 

Ongoing Research & Development 

  • Support ongoing research & development efforts for Compass Camp and Compass-in-Leadership 

Powered by Compass Team 

  • Participate in weekly team meetings, Circles, and quarterly cycle planning meetings 
  • Center your own personal development 
  • Attend and participate in bi-annual team retreats 

Network-Based Duties 

  • Enforce, uphold, and exhibit school’s values, student management policies, and culture
  • Own arrival duty and/or dismissal duty to support school-based needs

CRITICAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree.
  • You have a strong understanding of Valor's Circle model, or direct experience facilitating comprehensive human development/social emotional learning models in your previous role.
  • You have 2+ years of experience managing adults as an Assistant Principal or Principal or 3+ years of experience managing adults as a grade-level team leader, content team leader, or a similar role. 
  • You demonstrate a track record of meeting high expectations and accomplishing goals even in the face of obstacles.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to manage and complete multiple projects and deadlines.
  • You enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and have a strong “whatever it takes” mindset when it comes to accomplishing goals and objectives at work. 
  • You are willing to travel approximately 20% of the year. 
  • Preferred (but not required): prior work experience in a traditional district setting.

  • Valor offers a competitive salary that is determined based on prior teaching/leadership experience
