City Year seeks a dynamic, results-oriented professional to identify, qualify, and cultivate relationships with leading companies that have the potential to support our work advancing equity in education. You will have the opportunity to develop national partnership concepts that drive the company’s business and social goals, enhance brand reputation, engage employees and deliver impact in the communities they serve. In this role, you will be responsible for the pipeline management and execution of outreach and cultivation activities that build relationships with new potential corporate partners. You will gather insights from the company on their priorities throughout the cultivation process and use that information to collaborate internally in developing proposals for potential partners.


Boston is preferred based on the nature of the role, but applications will be considered for candidates based in key City Year and partnership markets, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington DC.


In this role, you will ensure that City Year meets our strategic objective of engaging companies in the education and national service agenda by leading the cultivation of new potential national corporate partners, supporting the creation of partnership proposals, and helping to secure commitments that advance national initiatives and local impact in 29 cities across the country and our two international affiliates. The Senior Manager of National Corporate Development reports to the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and is responsible for driving new revenue growth for City Year. In collaboration with the Senior Vice President of Development, you will manage the national pipeline, prioritize prospects, and determine appropriate cultivation strategies to deepen companies’ interest and secure their commitment.

The Senior Manager is responsible for leveraging existing relationships across the organization and leading outreach via targeted prospecting, conference and event attendance and other activities as needed to build a robust pipeline of potential corporate partners. The Senior Manager will prioritize prospects and allocate time and resources appropriately to ensure maximum return for City Year. You will also stay apprised of areas of need and opportunities to advance City Year’s work to proactively drive funder interest and resources towards them. In this role, you will engage companies in our work, identify the greatest points of alignment, and support the development proposals in collaboration with National Headquarters and City Year site team colleagues. This includes developing proposals and sales materials that distill the partnership opportunity and communicate the impact the company can have for the students we serve in a succinct and compelling way.

The Senior Manager is someone who works well in a fast-paced, team-based environment. A successful Senior Manager possesses a deep understanding of private sector partner needs and resources and can creatively align those with the needs and resources of City Year to develop unique and impactful partnerships that advance the goals of both City Year and the partnering company. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, excels at project management and can effectively engage a variety of internal stakeholders in the sales process. The Senior Manager is also someone who is flexible and adaptable, with the ability to stay focused on the health and growth of the national corporate partner pipeline, while also being able to quickly respond to reactive inquiries from potential companies that are interested in partnering with City Year.

The key responsibilities in this role include the following:

  • Lead in the qualification, cultivation, strategy and solicitation process for an assigned group of corporate prospects with the capacity to make national, multi-year, $500K+ annual commitments;
  • Use cychannel (SalesForce) for managing the sales process and proactively advancing national prospects through the sales cycle;
  • Develop strong relationships with national corporate partner prospects, keep apprised of their business and CSR commitments and identify partnership growth opportunities;
  • Serve as the lead and seamlessly integrate City Year staff engagement (e.g., Program Design, Marketing, Communications, Care Force, AmeriCorps Member Experience team, etc.) to identify the points of alignment with the philanthropic commitment of the corporate partner prospect and lead the concept development for the pitch;
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication and collaboration with our sites (29 locations) across the country to engage them on corporate partnership prospects;
  • Work with the SVP of Development, the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and National Corporate Partnerships team on broader national corporate partnership strategies, initiatives, campaigns and events that help build our pipeline and support the sales process;
  • Communicate and encourage engagement and participation in City Year events, webinars and initiatives for new potential national prospects; Coordinate engagement opportunities (e.g., school visits) to gain insight into City Year service;
  • Maintain cyconnect (SharePoint) page for Corporate Development including but not limited to a library of proposals by fiscal year, “best of” documents and additional resources for corporate partnership sales;
  • Keep City Year senior leadership informed and engaged with major prospects where appropriate, which may include creating presentations and briefings or coordinating in person meetings;
  • Identify opportunities to help drive national City Year corps member recruitment efforts and support for Voices for National Service and AmeriCorps through including these in the pitch strategy for potential national prospects.


  • Passion for City Year’s mission and values
  • Experience in sales, account management, philanthropy, nonprofit and corporate social responsibility sector for at least 5-7 years
  • Experience managing a pipeline via a prospect database; Salesforce experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, project management, attention to detail and the ability to balance, accomplishes tasks on time with high quality, and prioritize multiple high-priority deliverables simultaneously
  • Clearly articulates information and ideas orally and in writing, demonstrates active listening skills, inspires diverse audiences through compelling, tailored messaging and storytelling that integrates data and emotional appeal and ability to develop a variety of written communications (e.g., emails, pitch concepts, partnership presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear and compelling concepts and communicate them via developing a visual PowerPoint presentation
  • Builds trust in critical internal and external relationships, ability to understand corporate partner prospect and City Year goals and serve as the advocate for and deliver on those shared objectives, uses interpersonal interactions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and advance City Year’s mission, demonstrates personal presence and confidence when working with partners
  • Strong relationship building skills; it is easy for you to make connections with diverse groups and individuals, you invest in getting to know and understand people and you build trust quickly and authentically
  • Competency and desire to learn and grow in diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging work
  • Strong presentation, negotiation and liaison skills are required
  • Orientation for problem solving and identifying and developing opportunities for expanded partnership
  • Collaborative work style; teamwork orientation
  • Desire to learn; willing and eager to continue to be a life-long learner
  • Strong and efficient use of Microsoft Office; Specifically, with Microsoft PowerPoint
