Position 

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance to organizational, state, and national policies and regulations in the areas of learning design, continuing legal education, copyright, and accessibility. Tasks include auditing learning materials, applying for continuing legal education (CLE) program approvals, and developing guidelines and process documents under the direction of the Director of Learning, Compliance, and Innovation.  The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for being up to date with regulatory changes and maintaining internal records accordingly. The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for maintaining all CLE records and databases, including CLE information found on the NAAG website. Lastly, this position may allocate up to 40% of their time dedicated to writing processes and procedures for program delivery and maintenance. 

The Compliance Specialist will report to the Director of Learning, Compliance, and Innovation.  

Responsibilities 

  • Assist Director of Learning, Compliance, and Innovation with CLE compliance, including researching and communicating CLE rules and regulations.  
  • Maintain and update NAAGs CLE database.  
  • Apply for CLE approval for all NAAG and NAGTRI programs and online courses and, when required by awarding jurisdictions, eligible program attendees.  
  • Provide Uniform Certification of Attendance to eligible program attendees.   
  • Compile and prepare CLE reports including CLE expenditures, application statistics, and approved provider status, for management.  
  • Act as single point of contact with program lead and support to coordinate CLE materials, sign-in sheets, remote participation forms, timed agendas, evaluations, and other required paperwork.  
  • Develop and distribute accessibility and copyright compliance training materials to NAAG employees.  
  • Maintain learning compliance by identifying quality requirements, disseminating standards, policies and procedures, and elevating concerns to Director of Learning, Compliance, and Innovation.  
  • Work closely with NAGTRI administration to identify areas of improvement within existing learning products.  
  • Track trends in legal education.  
  • Survey legal education landscape to identify educational partners and competitors.  
  • Assist in the design and documentation of learning design and delivery processes to ensure consistency across the organization.  
  • Conduct quality review to verify learning deliverables are of acceptable quality and that they are complete and correct.  
  • Assist in the writing of processes and procedures for program delivery and maintenance. 
  • Perform other tasks based on the needs of NAAG and NAGTRI. 

Qualifications 

Education 

University degree is required.  

Desired Experience 

3-5 years working in a professional environment. 

Experience working in a law office, educational setting, or legal education setting preferred but not required.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills;   
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with lawyers, managers, and staff.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.  
  • Creative and thoughtful self-starter with excellent attention to detail. 

Location 

The Compliance Specialist will work remotely as is advisable and/or necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic wanes, the Compliance Specialist may be eligible for full-time telework under NAAG’s remote work policy as outlined in the employee handbook. The position will be expected to report to the NAAG office for certain staff functions. 

NAAG’s office is in Washington, D.C. 

Compensation  

Salary range $40,000 - $43,000, commensurate with experience. NAAG offers a very generous benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life/LTD, LTC and 401k retirement plan with an employer match and profit sharing.
