Nature of the Position: Oversees the accounting operations and supervises day-to-day activities of the accounting staff (currently defined as Accounting Tech 1 & 2). Ensures management’s assertions for daily processing are complete accurate and timely.

Manages the financial processes of recording transactions from a number of different manual and electronic systems maintained throughout the Society. The integration process includes:

·        Identifying the financial transaction;

·        Capturing the financial transaction in an electronic form;

·        Recording the financial transaction in the appropriate system and subsystem;

·        Periodically reconciling the transactions;

·        Reporting in summary and detailed form the results of the recordation process.

Examples of the various systems would include bank accounts, credit card accounts, the membership information database, sales (Expo space, advertising, corporate members), vendors, volunteers, and workforce. Additional information is referenced in the “ASLA Accounting Manager Procedures 2018”.


Assists the CFO with compliance reporting (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly), in finance, building operations, and the Society’s retirement plans.


Serves as the primary backup to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).


Works in partnership with department supervisor and other ASLA staff and volunteers to advance the Society’s mission, strategic objectives, and priority issues.

Upholds the ASLA values and culture.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Preferred Background/Experience:

Education: BA or BS degree in accounting

Skills: Proficiency in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. Excellent organizational skills, good judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to balance heavy workload with short- and long-term project deadlines, address changing priorities, and work well under pressure. Applications used at ASLA include Microsoft Office and Dynamics SL; iMIS Membership Database; SpaceMaster: a2z Exposition and Financial Management.

Experience: Minimum ten years’ experience in accounting operations in a supervisory role; office/building management experience a plus.
