Description

CODEPINK is a women-led grassroots organization working to end U.S. wars and militarism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect our tax dollars into healthcare, education, healthy jobs and other life-affirming programs.

CODEPINK has launched a Divest from the War Machine campaign to expose how war is part of our lives locally, and makes the rich richer while stealing from the needs of the people. We have gathered a coalition of 90 organizations and have had successes in cities, universities, churches and philanthropy. It includes a campaign directed at BlackRock to stop Making a Killing on Killing. The team includes a campaigner, organizer and researcher with social media and communications support from the core CODEPINK team.

CODEPINK is seeking an experienced, motivated, passionate and hard-working Campaign Director to lead our Divest from the War Machine campaign. In this position you will use your high level of professionalism, strong organizational skills and smart strategic coordination to build power to divest our nation’s financial institutions, cities, states, churches, foundations and individuals from the corporations that are making a killing from killing. Whether on the phone with a corporate contact, on Skype with allies, or in a team meeting, the ideal candidate will enjoy interacting with people on a variety of levels while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. If you like leading diverse teams, successful negotiations, and designing strategies that can be turned into creative action, we have the job for you.

This is a highly collaborative position, working closely with communication, digital and development departments. The ideal candidate will thrive at coordinating inter-departmental teams, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced campaigning environment, and listening to and incorporating feedback from our frontline partners.

Specific Duties:

• Lead the team to develop and implement campaign strategies to build power and pressure institutions to divest from the war machine;

• Oversee, develop and maintain effective working relationships with strategic local, regional, national and international partners across a multi-faceted divestment movement coalition;

• Work with grassroots organizing team and campaign staff to mobilize grassroots activists;

• Engage directly with decision-makers to create and implement divestment policy;

• Implement agreed-upon campaign activities that build visibility for the campaign and revoke the social license of destructive corporations and build toward creative solutions;

• Design, create and use a range of communications tools (direct actions, direct communication, traditional and social media, briefing sheets, and other tools) to communicate with target audiences and to achieve campaign objectives;

• Write clear, concise and compelling prose for advocacy materials, including blogs, web pages, email and social media content;

• Use traditional and online media strategies to educate supporters, amplify campaign activities, and pressure targets through the media.

• Develop tools and trainings to support a wide variety of campaigns within the divestment coalition;

·     Supervise and coach the campaigners on the team;

• Represent CODEPINK at events or within coalitions, as well as act as a public spokesperson for CODEPINK;

• Act as liaison between industry groups and other core audiences to ensure a campaign presence at key events and with priority decision-makers;

• Train and educate activists and groups in non-violent direct action, media and communication skills, grassroots organizing, and campaign strategy;

• Work openly and cooperatively with other team members;

• Participate in weekly staff meetings.

Required Qualifications:

·     3-5 years of experience running advocacy campaigns or campaigns for social justice;

·     Demonstrated experience with offline and digital campaigning tactics and a demonstrated ability to get results from entrenched targets;

·     3 or more years in a management position and commitment to coaching and mentoring team members;

·     Demonstrated understanding of grassroots organizing, movement building and nonviolent direct action;

·     Strong interpersonal skills; organizational, time management and project management skills;

·     Proven ability to multi-task and work on multiple deadlines simultaneously, in a fast-paced campaign environment;

·     Experience working in diverse coalitions and with both online and in-person organizing;

·     Experience and interest in the new economy, peace and justice movements; and/or corporate campaigning;

·     Ability to work to tight deadlines and drive work independently;

·     Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;

·     Solid computer skills (MS Office-literate);

·     Ability to travel

·     Preference given to candidates with experience with one or more of the following: developing corporate or municipal policy; socially-responsible investment; and/or city-level campaigning a plus.
