Development Manager (Remote)

ProgressNow is seeking a full-time Development Manager to support and innovate our fundraising, grant-writing, and donor-support activities, primarily by supporting the Executive Director and other staff by maintaining and overseeing all development and fundraising activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to detail and excitement for working within the non-profit and political sectors. They will be motivated by the implementation of systems and will have a strong drive to foster processes from start to finish. They can see the whole picture and break it down into steps but can be flexible and innovative when it comes to implementation. They’ll be independent and focused but will be a natural facilitator and will be skilled at transforming thoughts into text. They’ll not only oversee grant writing and donor support– they’ll track our progress on grant work and will help us present our work into grant reports for our funders.

Who We Are

ProgressNow and ProgressNow Education Fund are growing political and nonprofit organizations whose mission is to support progressive values, the progressive movement, and our 24 state affiliates with communications and research technology and guidance. ProgressNow Education Fund affiliates serve as a marketing shop for the progressive community. Behind the scenes, we facilitate communications and digital tables that align and coordinate the community behind a shared message and strategy. From staffing issue coalitions, developing message and communications calendars, and training and pitching spokespeople to developing digital content for partners and coordinating digital ad buys to maximize impact, we organize the progressive community’s communications for maximum impact.

What You’ll Do

The Development Manager, who is remotely located and reports to the executive director, is responsible for the following:

  • Overseeing grant life cycles– from application to reporting, the Manager will gather materials, format them, and will be the engine that keeps our relationships with our funders moving forward.
  • Broadening our current development portfolio— from identifying the potential for existing grant expansion to plumbing new funding opportunities, the Manager will support the Executive Director in cultivating and stewarding funding relationships and advise on and identify opportunities for more funding
  • Supporting state affiliate development activities–the manager will help affiliate staff as they complete grant proposals, reports, or need other technical assistance in this field
  • Maintaining a grant opportunity list and helping our executive director curate new funding sources
  • Help plan organizational meetings and events

Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves)

To be successful in this job, you will excel in three areas:

  • Attention to detail: You sense what’s needed and deftly deliver a final product that is complete, free from errors, and is exemplative of the work we do at ProgressNow
  • Personal drive: You are self-motivated and are motivated by delivering excellence. You wake up excited to build your “to-do” list and you close your work with satisfaction after finishing what you know needs to be done.
  • Independence: You work well without constant supervision or attention, but love intersections with your colleagues. We’re located all over the country, but mostly on the East Coast of the US, and you may see us in person only a few times a year.
  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice: You recognize the role of race, income, age, immigration status, and other identities in shaping health disparities, and you consistently amplify community voices to advocate for more equitable policy solutions. You recognize how your own identities show up in the work, and welcome, reflect on and act on feedback with an eye toward continuous learning about race, ability, and other lines of difference.

Experience grant writing and working with large non-profit funders are both plusses, but are not requirements.

If you were here right now, you would be:

  • E-mailing three of us seeking project updates for grant work
  • Meeting with our executive director to debrief a funder meeting she just finished to document the meeting and identify possibilities for funding
  • Communicating with two different state staff members to give them feedback on grant proposals
  • Formatting and proofreading a grant report written by a staff member, and checking to make sure it has all its expected component parts
