Position Title: Horizon Program Assistant Director

Supervisor: Horizon Program Director  


The Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) is a leader in the field of community-based alternatives to incarceration. Our mission is to promote reintegrative justice and a reduced reliance on incarceration through advocacy, services and public policy development in pursuit of civil and human rights.

CCA’s Youth Services Department is seeking a qualified youth development professional to assist in the development and implementation of CCA’s Career Exploration Program at the Horizon Juvenile Detention Facility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Coordination (75%)

·        Assist Program Director in providing vision and leadership for the Horizon program curriculum including the development and monitoring of workshop quality and learning outcomes 

·        Ensure all programs integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and trauma-informed care

·        Act as the primary point person for SONYC facilitators, communicate schedule changes with facilitators, schedule make-up programming as needed

·        Work with Director to ensure all facilitators complete onboarding paperwork, clearances, orientation and security training

·        Ensure all facilitators submit material and supply clearance in advance of sessions; submit clearances well in advance of workshops

·        Coach contractors on curriculum and lesson plan development; provide regular workshop observations and ongoing feedback and support

·        Develop a schedule of guest facilitators to ensure youth have weekly contact with outside opportunities

·        Ensure facilitators and youth arrive on time for program and troubleshoot scheduling issues as they arise

·        In collaboration with ACS program staff, develop peer leadership and incentive opportunities for youth

·        Oversee the development of skill-based certificates for each workshop; organize events to celebrate and showcase youth learning

·        Support Transition Coordinator with Reentry Planning and Reentry Mentor-led workshops

·        Perform monthly program observations and provide feedback to facilitators; provide quarterly written assessments   

·        In collaboration with ACS staff and peer leaders, plan and coordinate monthly family nights 

·        Partner with ACS’ Youth Rights Unit to support the facility’s Residential Council program

·        Facilitate and co-facilitate workshops as needed

Administrative duties (25%)

·        Request roster from ACS Programs and update enrollment on a weekly basis

·        Oversee the timely completion of work scopes in DYCD Connect 

·        Ensure timely enrollment and attendance data collection and reporting on DYCD Connect; complete missing attendance reports

·        Maintain DYCD binder and ensure up to date (attendance, enrollment sheet, SCR/SCL clearances, weekly schedule)

·        Update enrollment sheet on daily basis and send to Program Assistant 

·        Prepare contractors and youth for monthly family nights and regular special events and performances

·        Collect attendance and send to Program Assistant


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

·        Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social work or other related field degree required

·        At least 5 years’ experience delivering and facilitating youth programs required

·        At least 2 years’ coordinating youth development programs required

·        Experience working with justice-involved youth and/or within detention facilities required

·        Demonstrated experience implementing positive youth development and trauma-informed best

·        Excellent networking, writing and organizational skills

·        Strong interpersonal and team building skills

·        Some weekends required

·        Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
